Was wondering if one of you guys can help me out as to the purpose/name of this item. It is affixed on the rear of the spare tire carrier on the cmp. It is the angle shaped plate thta I am refering to. I have only seen one on a friend's truck, part # C291WQ-8603054. See the attached photo. Thanks

I am not sure what you are talking about.
The photo seems to show the spare tire carrier on the 15 Cwt welding truck MACH-KL. Note the wheel well below it as it was mounted on the side, not behind the cab as on 15 Cwt GS trucks. The two clamps to hold the tire in place are there at each end. but I do not know what the vertical bar would be, unless it is a bow for a tarp. |

Sorry Colin, should have been more specific, unfortunately couldn't figure out how to place an arrow on my picture. If you look at the photo, look at the right-hand "clamshell". You will see at the rearmost area where the clamshell mounts to the base is a sheetmetal plate cut on an angle. It is the same width as the carrier and mounts on using 2 thumbscrews. Most spare tire carriers I have seen are missing this item, but it is definately a piece of original kit.

Yes Hanno, that is the item I am refering to. I have since researched the C291WQ prefix and it pertains to Ford CMP 15cwt, Canadian 1942 4x4. the rest of the number is a mystery as my parts book only lists to about the 810xxx series. Any info is greatly appreciated.
