Dave
Can you repair/weld it together ? This pic depicts a C4 setup , maybe different to yours with 5 speed gearbox ? Mike

Was the same part used on other morris trucks just after the war as I do have one of them here up the paddock sitting on some rocks.

However, we have today put the two types together and see no difference, plus all have just C103 cast in them. The pictured casting was pulled out of the (considerable) stock today and compared as identical to the item currently being re-assembled back with its wholly re-machined, new white metal, bored, new pistons and tappet block, 4 cyl engine; a 10 month wait at the specialist shop and a bill that would run our household for 3 months. This part is available at a small charge I think if you speak to Rory but he has no time to crate it and fiddle about with shippers I'm afraid. R. |

Here's the "new" C4 engine as I left it 3 hours ago, probably they have a huge amount back together now since people were making paper gaskets, flatting/lapping the oil pump cover on a surface plate and throwing Hylomar at it back then! Perhaps a trip down the road. . . . . . . . . . . . . R. |

You have the Morris engine green just about spot-bollock. It's a brave man that takes on a MC here even when you have the ear and spares of The Morris Men of Shirrell Heath, in the USA its an entirely different proposition altogether!! The PM should be with you now. R. |

Richard..... You said.... " flatting/lapping the oil pump cover on a surface plate " My old mechanics instructor just rolled over in his grave... If ,as an apprentice ,I was to lap anything on "HIS" surface plate,he'd be hanging knots on my head faster than I could rub them....!!! That was one of the first things impressed on us when we started in his class...."The right tool for the right job"...and HIS surface plate was a precission instrument,a true flat surface, for among other things Checking for warpage in other surfaces... Once you lap something on it it wears the surface of the surface plate and you can not ever have a true flat surface where you lapped the valve,as the lapping grit not only wears the valve material but the surface plate material also... A cardinal sin ,worthy of a group sac kicking if you were caught doing lapping on HIS surface plate.. ![]() ![]() ![]()

We colloquially surface things on a surface(ing)/flatting/rubbing/lapping plate whereas a surface plate is a precision flat plate as you correctly describe and definitely not to be used with grinding paste! R. |

Plate glass ...... has he gone mad I can hear you say . It's the ideal method for lapping in any flat surface . I learnt about it when I used to grind radio XTALS up in Frequency , the old FT243 type XTALS , you can disassemble them and grind the thin plate of quartz down . You use carborundum powder , or fine carborundum grade paper . Plate glass is optically flat , which means its great for levelling carby joints/faces and many other uses too , the thick stuff is the best 1/4" or more .
The Morris engines - Dave's looks better than new . Watch out for the oil leaks Dave , it's British . The tree frog green is eye catching . Mike
