It must be getting too warm down there. You need more beer.

Is this from your WASP?
The reason I ask is that it is possibly just a filler required as part of the special equip on the WASP models. Did the flame gun not mount in the upper section of the gunners plate? |

No, the wasp nozzle was in the lower part. I made the first one but this is the real thing that I found today with a hole bunch of other goodies. It is in the manuals on the carriers at the start of the book but I can't locate it in the parts list. There should be a part no. on it but I didn't find it as it would need some clean up and it's not quite mine, (yet). It's a blanking board for in front of the gunner. and if it was me sitting there I sure would want to have it.

That part is the standard armour filler that came with all Mk.II* Canadian carriers to fill the gaping rectangular hole in the front that, from time to time, allowed the odd bullet or shell fragment in. Mk. 1 Carriers had no such plug, which may suggest that their crews were expected to possess a greater élan and aggressiveness.

It's weird that you don't see this part around more. I just made one because I thought that hole must of had something when it wasn't being used. And then all of a sudden I find a real one. this must have been used when fording rivers too. Any way here is another one and I don't know what it is.

I looks to me like a mount for a .30 Cal Browning with a craddle for an ammo can. The "U" shaped cutout looks like it is wide enough to accomodate the barrel jacket, the craddle is on the proper side for left hand feeding. I like the idea of the tilted up angle of the craddle to prevent the can from slipping out when things get jinky. Only thing I can't figure is how a proper pintle mount would attach securely enough to prevent you from beating the whole top part to scrap after a couple of long bursts.
It would sure look good on parade though! Cheers

What are the chances of that mount mount bolting directly to the floor , lining up with the gunners slot in the front plate.
I'm sure I've seen .30 Cals mounted that way somewhere before. Cheers WAG=Wild Assed Guess Wayne

I just found a picture showing that it goes on top of the engine cover to mount the machine gun. Tried to scan the picture but it doesn't come out clear. Pictures are in David Fletcher's book Universal carrier 1936-48.

Hi,
I would imagine that blanking plate would be rather useful when fording or wading. Cheers, Dave |
