Can anyone advise me, in general, as to what markings should be on my M38A1 (1953)? If I need stencils or decals, where can I get them?

What time frame do you want to depict the vehicle?

Thanks for the response. Well, I guess 1953 to 55 would do. I assumed that the markings would be generic.....

Hi
Have you thought about Canadian Army UN service markings? http://www.armouredacorn.com/Referen...20Duty%20).pdf Pretty standard and generic. Just a thought. regards Darrell |

Well, I'm sticking to basic green, but I really appreciate the reference to armouredacorn. Now all I need to do is find a source for decals. Anyone know of any?

Canada used a few M38A1 (US made) jeeps - apparently in Japan during the Korean War - and one photo found shows a USA number.
The 1953 M38A1CDN and 1967-68 M38A1CDN2 came from the factory semi-gloss green (except for the RCAF contract M38A1CDN). Retsoring with matt green is a common mistake. The Canadian Army Registration number (CAR) was painted in white on the sides under the door wells. A number of collectors mistakenly paint it on the sides of the hood as per WWII jeeps (the Queen's Own Rifles seem to be a unit that did that but it is definitely the exception). The CAR number is NOT the VIN number for the vehicle! (another common mistake). The Unit, Formation and Britidge markings etc. were bright and colourful. ![]() An earlier model, M38CDN in original paint and markings when it was in Colin Stevens' collection 52-31379 The CAR/CFR appeared in various fonts and sizes on the sides. About 1970 the Canadian Armed Forces began the camouflage matt painting and the colourful markings were the replaced with black small markings. The white painted CAR (now called CFR) was replaced by a CANADA (or DND) licence plate with the last five digits of the CFR. ![]() 67-07995 ex-Seaforth Highlanders of Canada when it was in Colin Stevens' collection, with its original wirecutter bar BEST ADVICE - LOOK AT PHOTOGRAPHS!
