I had just left the Acton sale and had driven 10-15 km on the 401 when someone flagged me to pull over, there appeared to be a problem with my 3/4ton Pioneer trailer. We stopped, saw nothing , started again and as I accelerated I felt a jump. Upon stopping again we saw the drivers side tire had lost a chunk of thread about 6 inches wide by 12 inches long,

the tire was still inflated. Not wanting to pay a tow truck and storage we transferred the load to the pickup and then proceeded to drive at 80kph on Hwy 401. We drove for over 60kms with the bad tire, we finally stopped in Oshawa and left it at the Museum.
Upon examining the tire we saw the we had lost more thread and if we had driven much further the rire would have completely separated. The tire we had was a recapped NDT military tire. The load ,speed and distance did not agree with it.
Now we have to go back to Oshawa with a spare and return with the trailer. We were very lucky the tire didn't explode, the tire has a very distinct thread and I will isolate these tires. I will post some pictures when I pick up the trailer. Gilles
