It's alive!
Hi folks
Update on Lance's Mk2 Carrier. Found a spare distributor adapter in a parts box. Installed that. Looked under engine but didn't find the old one. When using the starter to test the fit, one of the belts came off. Looked in the pullys and found the old adapter had lodged in the pully and that caused the belt to slip off. So, now the old adapter now as a spare. With tinkering on the gas system, we got it started and running. SOunds good, but need exhaust system connected. Engaged the gears and all engage, drove it into driveway and tested the brakes. As you can see from the pics, the left and right brakes lock up to allow a spot turn. Put it back in the barn now and have some wiring to do, then paint. Looking likely to make the winter Battle of the Bulge reenactment the end of January at Ft. Indiantown Gap PA. |

Does this explain crop circles?
Hi Jim
Good to see another MV moving again, strange how little parts can find creative ways hide. Next question how long will the marks last on the driveway? Would be good answer for those parade organizator questions about will carriers damage the pavement. Cheers Phil

Carriers marking their territory...
I have had three carriers on that pavement some 10 years back. My experiance is that all the white is scuff marks, No digging in to the lower quality home paving.
As someone else said, all it was was the tar scraped off the top of the white gravel used in the pavement mix. We will see how car traffic and rain takes it away. |

New Carrier
My driveway tar is scrapped a little bit by my track marks and i am very proud of it.
It goes away pretty fast so i have to make new track marks ever so often ... Great job Jim.

As you say Jim, the coating scrapes off the stone tops,
and is quickly re-coated by traffic.
I had the museum carrier at home 2 years ago, and can still see track marks on the concrete surface of the driveway where I reversed up to the shed! No skid turns or anything! I think the lack of traffic is the key element (1 to 2 cars per day versus hundreds or more per day on a public road) Point of all this? be wary driving over ornamental surfaces that don't carry traffic. Concrete or clay pavers are easily chipped on their edges by the tracks. I have chipped kerbs too, climbing over the edge, and they stay visible for a long time! If it rains while you are parked, it can quickly rust stain the concrete as well. At the end of the day, just enjoy the moment! Rob |

Value the road
Reciently had my driveways re-bitumened after constant Carrier and other heavy Green machine traffic. I now back out of the shed, straight out to the road before commencing any turns- while the odd turn does not damage the surface, multiple trips every week-end over several years does do damage. just ask my wife....Suggestion-Drive straight to the street, and let the Council look after it! Street's better for high speed run's anyway!
Now I may got a little carried away one ANZAC day following the rule above, local law enforcement (and local carrier owner luckily) gave me a big smile & a stern pointing/waving of the finger- thanks Darren..I PROMISE I won't do it again..... |

Well I got to pop up to Jim's warehouse of Brit vehicles the other week and got to do some work on the carrier with him, we replaced some of the straps, fitted the battery box in, did some touch up painting, added some bits and bobs, still have the rear T number to put on and some minor work to do. Got to look at the Morris, and play with the carrier.

Some more pics of the carrier, was at Jim's last weekend and done some more work on it. Custom made jack carrier, used some webbing (modified, field made), no pics of anything like this but figured it worked, did some stenciling and some minor stuff, used it to mostly pull out the UC MKI* and get it moved to the new bay

Track was running at that point and got turned to that position and the parking brake was put on, we were using it to move the MKI carrier to its new home, will have to go back and check to see, maybe Jim put the steering wheel back on upside down after he found the lost nut..or maybe it was just still in the turning position, which I think it was, I didn't straighten up the wheel after the turn, think it was still in that position, maybe Jim can chime in,,, thanks for all the compliments, but Jim did most of it and Gord's carrier was in good shape before I got it, this is just a motor pool restoration though, if something comes up will deal with it, and will probably do a nut and bolt in a few years if she is still around.. unless another toy comes up..
