Maybe Radio mounted on pessenger side? I do not see anything on the driver's side...

I don't think it's particularly ad hoc, those photographs are from 1942/1943 and that's an Aerial Base No.1 by the look of things, as fitted to Universal Carriers and a lot of early wireless-equipped vehicles. It may well have been an original and official installation.
