Spline coupler
Does anyone know where I can purchase some sort of spline couplers for military generators? Back in the day Princess Auto sold generator/welders made with these units, and I have a few that need to be put to use. Shaft size is about .860 - .865 diameter and 1.5 inches long, there are 16 splines. Any leads greatly appreciated.

Wow, good luck. The chance of finding original parts for such items is fading. Whether comparables are available, or machining new ones makes sense, is a judgement call.

Try True Gear and Spline in Cambridge. They may be able to help, or point you in the right direction.
It is a rather small involute spline you are looking for, cut with a broach, so something that is not conducive to small numbers for production. Also try Hub City or Motion Canada. I used to get some odd ball spline coupling's through Motion while I was still working.

You can also get a guy with a "wire cutter" to cut an internal spline of any size out of any material, quite an easy process, simpler than broaching, and very accurate ,Cheers Andrew.

Coupling
Many hydraulic pumps use a splined shaft. If you check with a shop that deals with hydraulics you may find something that will work.

Thanks for all the leads, I have to admit I have not heard of the wire cutter technique Andrew, perhaps there is a video on line.
