Ford Horns

Hi everyone.

The horn for my Carrier just arrived in the mail today. The lady who I bought it from had told me that a bit of dirt/sand came out of the screen when it was being packed up. I told her no problem. Cheh out the second picture for the source.

If it turns out not to work doesnyone have some suggestions for getting it to work. I would like to use on those people who somehow seem to miss the noise of an approaching Carrier.

Jordan, I have only a few years of experience with old army trucks and their component parts. So, with that limiting qualification, my humble suggestion, for what it's worth, is to scrape the mud wasp nests off.

Make sure they're dead first.

or...

I wonder if a little kinky 6V vibration would satisfy them?

or...

are you suggesting a beep and buzz?

Thanks for the advice. I was a little stunned when I opened it. I figure if there had been alive or unhatched then they definatley would have been ready to go when i opened the box considering it came out of Kansas.

Not only that, they would have been buzzing: "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas any more"

I reckon a good clean and some voltage should do the trick.

Assuming the electrics work we were taught in mechanics that if it is buzzing and not loud , to blast up in to the horn with a constant stream of WD40 while the horn is energized (honking). I personally have used this on several old Ford pickups and it worked very well.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Yes I also thought it looked like some food I have had in the past.

Luckily on further inspection the nest were long since hatched. There were also some kind of nesting all inside around the diaphram. Perhaps thats why it wasn't really honking when I first tried it.

Its all painted up in Kahki Green #3 to match the rest of the carrier. I have also added new wiring.

Nice Job Jordan , your carrier is moving along in 1 more piece in restoratrion. I'm taking a break from it all, I need a rest. maybe 2 weeks of RnR.

Mud wasps can be a pain, excuse the pun, they are right up there with squirrels, and mice causing problems. I’ve had mice take out the clutch on my HUP, squirrels fill the muffler with acorns starting a fire, and mud wasps blew-off a radiator when the built a nest in the vent pipe.
