Question USA Vehicle rego numbers

I have recently added a pair of dodge WC51 to the collection of Blitzes. I am interested to find out if there is anyway to chase up the unit or use from the army registration number on the bonnet side panels. The Australian War Memorial holds records for Aussie vechiles that can be reviewed to give you some info ie
Delivery date, engine number, body type, tyre size, purchase contract, disposal contract and some times shipping details.
Is there a USA equivelent available ?

Default yes and no

You can get all the original info for the truck, contract number, that sort of thing, and a listing of known chassis numbers against delivery dates at;

http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~djr/

as to units it was allocated to and actual history there is no current way of knowing, only clues are usually bumper markings.
