Default flathead timing marks.

hi all, On my flathead 8ba engine i understand there is a timer pointer on the front of the engine to align with the mark on the pulley when no1 piston is at top dead centre, this pointer is missing on mine, you couldnt tell me were the pointer is supposed to be, also what direction does the flathead run in normally?. clockwise?. I need to put my distributor back in and set the timing. there is a hole in the aluminium front case were i guess this pointer should be located but i am only guessing, any tips would be great. even a picture of what this timer pointer should look like.

I can't help with the pointer at this time, but all engines run clockwise viewed from the front.

Default timing

That hole was where the pointer was so just line up the notch in the pully with the hole.
