Gentlemen
We recently took delivery of a carrier after many years of searching for a suitable candidate. I had thought I knew a little about these vehicles, but that has turned out not to be quite that true, so i've put together a small collection of pictures that I thought I should share. Any comments are welcome, I'm keen to confirm just what we have here. It came with a data plate, but that was only recently affixed. engine has canadian army rebuild plates form 1956. Gearbox appears frozen and may be the reson for it being pushed into a shed for 20 years.. see what you think I have put the pictures on small website (training challenge from work!) so advice on the website welcome too! www.universalcarrier.co.uk my best wishes for christmas and new year nick yorkshire england |

Hi Nick
Enjoyed your web site, looks like this one has been protected from the weather for a major part of its life or atleast came from a dry climate. You are strange how some parts will disappear and others will survive. I've added your site to my list of CMP sites to visit when I get bored or need insperation to get out and work on the trucks Cheers Phil

Good looking site Nick, and good luck with the carrier in the future.
And I'm amazed your website name hadn't been taken a long time ago, or had you been sitting on that one for awhile? ![]() ryan |

thanks for the replies, I'm afraid I've a long way to go in the web development world, but its a start. The domain in actual fact was registered not that long ago, I too was suprised to see it still available. As for the shed, it looks suprisingly tidy in that picture, we had not long since moved to a new shed. You should see it now, only 2 months later!
kind regards nick |

Hi Dave
Please let me know if you want me to help out.. I did have a real long conversation with him about your parts, he seemed to know what you were looking for. I just thought you would prefer to deal with him direct. He told me he had many customers in the USA and Canada.. take care nick |

I'm just wondering if there is any way of finding the vehicle serial number for this carrier. We have the data plate details, but the armour infront of the driver is cut away taking with it all the stampings
Also would a CD2609 vehicle with a build date of July 1944 have shipped over seas or been left in canada as storage, I imagine by that time there were enough vehicles in europe any way? kind regards nick |

You still have your hull #'s. One is behind the gunners head on the angle iron and the other is on the same side on the rear angle iron that the hull armour joins to the fender See photo's.

Hi Ledsel, thanks for that
Am I right in thinking then that the Hull number as stamped behind the gunner gives a CT number identical to the number stamped on the upper armour edge (now missing) and alos equates to the number painted on the side of the vehicle? Ok, Dave, will give him a call after the holidays and sort it out, kind regards nick |

No, sorry but the CT# is a different monster. I don't think you will be able to find that unless someone here can find some way to trace that info. Or if you can somehow find the pieces.

One thing nice is those two original tail pipes. Hard to find those tite bends. It's funny that they only stamped those #'s in that one place and it happend to be the worst spot on a carrier to do that as that's the most common cut off spot.

Hi Fellas
I have lloked a little more closely at the numbers on my vehicle. What I am trying to work out is wether or not the (newly) afixed data plate on the carrier actually belongs to this vehicle. I understand from an earlier post that the hull number and the vehicle number can be with in a certain range.. the vehicle dtat plate details are Universal Carrier No2 Mk2* Serial Numbers: Model UC No2 Mk11 Serial 27371 (listed in CMPINFOEX 1991 as 27571) Hull 23876 (listed in CMPINFOEX 1991 as 23875) Engine TL-28955-F CD 2609 (a contract for 2500 Welsh Guard Stowage Carriers??) July 1944 and the number stamped in the rear angle iron is: Rear body / hull number 26902 (angle iron) my question? is ot likely that thiese numbers relate to the same vehicle?? my best wishes for the new year nick |

Check the hull no. in the gunners area it should match the hull no. on the plate. Almost forgot. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.
