Although they wouldn't describe themselves as such, the Forward Air Controllers from the Vietnam era were extremely brave men.
Last flying weekend Howard Holgate (of SFOS and cab 12 F15 fame) and I interviewed a bunch of them at the Temora Aviation Museum in our newly completed studio. Converted from a store room it is almost soundproof and a huge improvement on the way we have done interviews on flying days in the past. The FACs visited the museum as part of their week-long international reunion and it was a privilege indeed to speak to so many of them. Darryl Whitcombe was one of the USAF pilots, doing FAC duty not only in Vietnam but also in Laos as a RAVEN. ![]() I wasn't able to take many photographs, only being able to be there on Saturday and being rather preoccupied with the veterans, but here's one of the Hudson at sunset. ![]() Also a wet start by the Dragonfly. ![]() More pics here.
