Default Fort Scratchley, Newcastle, Australia

I recieved this some time ago and was surprised that it did not appear on here.

We would like to invite you and your members to attend our Military Vehicle parade/display at Fort Scratchley Newcastle. The day will include a Military vehicle parade followed by a Vehicle display outside the Fort.

The parade and exhibition will be a key element in a weekend of events to celebrate Completion of a $12 million Commonwealth funded program to refurbish the historic landmark, Fort Scratchley.

The Hon Kevin Rudd MP, Prime Minister of Australia has been invited to handover the fort on behalf of the Commonwealth to the people of Newcastle at a ceremony to be held on Sunday 29 June 2008. The facility will then be held in the care and custody of Newcastle City Council.

Fort Scratchley was dedicated to all serving and ex-service men and women of Australia by former Prime Minister The Hon John Howard MP in 2002, and shall become a major national heritage, tourism and community asset.

The major objective of the weekend’s activities will be to produce a spectacular celebration to encourage maximum community engagement and ownership whilst achieving national exposure for the fort.



Date: 28th June 2008

Parade Form up point 1. 8.30am to 9am CARBINE Close Maryland.
Vehicles that wish can form up at Carbine close Maryland and then go in convoy under police escort into the Newcastle CBD. We will then form up at Horseshoe Beach car park (opposite Nobby’s beach) for the parade proper.

People who wish can just meet at the Horseshoe beach car park. No later than 10am

Parade times: Parade will start at 11.00am. Parade will make its way through the parade route and end up back at the Fort for a static vehicle display for the public. Display will end around 3pm.

Parade Route: Leave Car park into Wharf road. Down Wharf road left into Watt street. then left into Scott Street. Along Scott Street to Parnell Street then into Nobbys road back into the Fort.

A BBQ and light refreshments will be supplied to all members after the event.


Date:29th JUNE 2008
Static vehicle display outside/inside the Fort. Members who wish to stay for the weekend events are welcome to display their vehicles on Sunday as well. Several re-enactment groups will also be attending.

Vehicles will need to be onsite no later than 9am.
