Hello everyone
While browsing through Nigel Watson's UC vol.2 and the "Factory Photos" CD from service publications I came across a rather strang bracket on a Mk2 Carrier. Any ideas as to what it is for? My only thought is that it is what went in the odd corner bracket of the stowage locker on the Mk1. If you look at the second picture you can see the two holes from where that corner bracket had been removed from the locker. Finally, any ideas as to what the white box in the upper left corner of the locker is?

Jordan, the MKII stowage diagram indicates that the white box could be: 1)Anti Gas Suits (or waterproof clothing) OR 2)Powder, Bleach 2lb. Tin OR 3)Waste, Cotton (for bleach powder bundles). Im thinking that this gear is anti-gas material.
In addition the stow diagram lists, in the same bin: Cover, Gun Bren...Flags, Signaling...Sheets, Ground....Haversack, W.E. Patt 37 x4.....Poles 3'0"....Axe, Pick Helve. As far as the mystery bracket/device goes... my guess is that it is a horn, or a hooter as the Brits know it. Any further comments gents? Harris |

Thanks for the info about the contents.
As for that stange bracket I don't believe it can be for a horn. Another picture shows the bracket empty. I wonder if it could be a cleaning "brush" for the 2" Mortar. What ever it was it must have been dropped from production as you don't see it on other Mk2's

Hi Guys,
it looks very much like a muffler for a chore-horse. Cheers, Dave |
