Hi Rob,
Is the hook itself fabricated like in these photos? http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...697#post279697

hello Hanno,
nope this came original out of that wooden crate. Maybe the number on that crate tells us something. So all the 3 pieces, 1 hook , 1 bracket and 1 reinforement bracket |

what series of Ford produced vehicles use part number: C49IQ-XXXXX ?
How does C49IQ - XX805 as an assembly fit? C491Q - XX805 For example, does it point towards a Canadian built, designed in 1944, with 95 hp engine, 101” wheel base, specialty chassis ? Rob, are there any part numbers on the individual bracket parts themselves? Any FoMOCo, 1944, or FMCo 1944 then a part number? Last edited by Michael R.; 27-12-21 at 05:45. |

I copied the first part number for the "..... Towing Hook Assembly" and came up with a hit on MLU http://mapleleafup.net/forums/showpo...9&postcount=10 this was posted back in 2017 by Issah2025 on 28-03-17, 05:38 . The whole thread is about towing hooks The kit may have been sold by LWD Parts https://www.lwdparts.com/product/towing-hook-kit/ the link has a photograph - currently out of stock - by the way. LWD was owned by a late member of MLU Dirk Leegwater - Dirk's son Stefan Leegwater is now responsible for LWD Parts. The contact details are in the Netherlands https://www.lwdparts.com/contact/ Stefan may be able to provide more insight into the tow kit. Kind regards Lionel

The main bracket looks to be a standard Ford LH bumper bar mount.

If I had to guess, I would suggest it was some kind of a modification kit for moving guns, possibly without their limbers. The trails on the 25 pounder, for instance, will foul with the towing vehicle in some cases. Their "spades" are very close to the towing ring. The kit does appear to be somewhat light duty however.....not sure how it would stand up to cross country operation.
Personally, I do like having a hitch on the front of a vehicle. It is perfect for pushing guns, trailers, or casualties into tight spots or onto transports. But again, this looks a little light duty for pushing. Last edited by rob love; 28-12-21 at 04:52. |

hi Guys,
thanks for all your replies. i guess you are right that it is a little bit flimsy to use as towing hook so i think the best thing to do is to make brackets myself. gr Rob |
