Hi, just need some pics of the 2 pdr carriage with the gun removed. i am making a mount for my universal carrier, there appears to be a locking pin to hold the gun in position to stop it rotating. i have attached a pic of the mount hole on the carrier aswell as a couple of 2pdr pics.

Hi
I'm new to this site, and just browsing through. I'd be interested to know the location of the 2 pounders shown here. I've enclosed a picture of mine which I restored from derilict some years ago. It still requires some minor work. Sorry Kevin, I'm not about to lift the gun off for pictures!! However I took some ordinary snaps during it's rebuild. email me maybe something I have will help. G'day Kevin,
I believe the style of cradle you need is the Mark IV type -which is a Canadian later version of the cradle. Very similar to the 6 Pounder type Cradle / Body. The trail versions that you have shown pictures of here are Mark III. Clive (servicepub - MLU Forum Member) shows the types of trails in his publication "The 2-Pounder Anti-Tank Gun in Canadian Service". He may be kind enough to show a couple of photos / images of the type you require. Perhaps there are some other forum members who can post or show the Mark IV Carriage? The Mark III mount would not fit, or work, in the application you are requiring it for. Hoping this may be of assistance and makes some sort of sense. I am going from memory as I haven't got any reference material here with me at the moment. Regards, Darian. |

Hi Kevin,
Just a quick note to give you a bit more information re your 2pdr for your carrier restoration and reiterating what Darian has said. "Still, as it was the only AT gun in production the British decided to increase production rather than look for something better. This probably kept the much more powerful 6-pounder (57mm) out of production for another 18 months as a course, but as noted here the final production models of the 2-pounder used the 6-pounder carriage, and that at least simplified the changeover to the more powerful gun."The 2-Pounder Anti-Tank Gun in Canadian Service, Doug Knight ISBN 1-894581-36-3 This is the answer that you needed. You are looking for a late production 2 pdr, with the 6 pdr sheild. The six that I'm currently working on has a nomenclature plate that explains this also ( see attached picture ) and when we remove the trunion from the trail I will take photos to show you what it looks like. I have not seen a 2pdr/6pdr before and don't know how easy one of these will be to find in your neck of the woods or across the water in Canada. Good luck with the rest of your resto. Hope this information is of some assistance to you, please keep us all informed. Pedr |
