During a discussion yesterday with our esteemed host GWB, an invite to visit during the Thunder Over Michigan air display was discussed. Geoff felt that it would be worthwhile posting some details of the show for all to see. The show is held at Willow Run Airport outside of Detroit and has had various themes over the years, fighter reunion (with Chuck Yeager and Gunther Rall), and the bomber reunion with 5 B 17s and Hamiltons Lanc among those in attendance. This year is being billed as the "World's Largest Gathering of Naval Warbirds" with 17 Avengers, 3 Corsairs, 2 Wildcats, 2 Dauntlesses etc. If past years are any indication, these planes will be there for the most parts. There is also a nice MV display with a heavy leaning towards US types but with some nice German stuff mixed in. The Yankee Airforce which hosts the whole thing, is based out of a WW 2 era hangar which was used in the production of B 24s by Ford Motor Company. Their collection of artifacts and planes is truly impressive also, all in all, well worth the drive. Here's the link to their site if you want more.
