Guys,
When I rebuilt my C30 a few years ago, a stamped X was found on the front of the cab, (see picture). Seeing that this was part of her history, I kept it visible, rather than filling it , not really knowing what it stood for. Imagine my delight in seeing, a certain C60X in France recently, with the X stamped in the same place !, and only 2 months between build dates. On the last day in France, another CMP owner introduced himself to me, and in the short conversation we had, I asked him to check his Chev out, guess what, he also has an X stamped on. Now, what did it stand for ? was it an inspection stamp ?, why have we only seen it on Chevy's, or was it for vehicles coming down the line that were to be fitted with special bodies, or maybe eXport. So far, I have only seen this on 3, 13 cab Chevy's. So , who else has come across this, and what are your thoughts Regards Keith |

Hi Adame,
OK, so that rules out the eXport idea, and yours is 2 years later than mine, so nothing to do with early cab production. Maybe it's to do with body types, what body does yours have Adame, and is she a Chevy? Regards Keith |

Just walked out to the barn to check my HUP. The mark on my 1945 HUP is in the same location though I would describe it as being a + sign a little less then a 1/4" side to side and top to bottom.
A new CMP mystery which I suspect may go on resolved. Cheers Phil

My guess is some sort of inspector's mark. You see this on British-made guns. Each plant had its inspectors, and for some guys' stamping style were more distinctive.

Terry,
My thoughts exactly. There is another thread dealing with a similar subject on here, showing an inspector stamping a 1/2 Ton Dodge, but I can't find it at the moment ! Needless to say, I shall be inspecting every Chev I see now ! Regards Keith P.S. Thanks Adame |
