Hello All,
I have joined with the idea that I could find the where abouts of my 1st car. When I was 18 my folks bought me my first car. A 1952 M38 for 500$. They expected it would sit in the yard for a few years before I got back to being road worthy. I had it up and running, and safetied in 2 months. It is my biggest regret to have sold it. I used as my daily driver for about 3 years. I sold it to pay for my college tuition. A friend of mine sold it for me using Hamilton's Corner Garage in Guelph (They are a Volvo junk yard) Its Military (?) number was 52-31749 and had a winter hard top on it. Also had a roll bar installed that sat on angle iron that ran the length of the inne fenders. Had a complete interior to my knowledge. Had replaced the ammeter with a volt meter from a newer A1. Had also installed a turn signal system from an A1 as well. I had installed a military antenna mounting bracket on the back above the spare tire. The rear brakes had been replaced with those from a DJ-5 jeep, 2"x11-1/2" If memory serves. All the right hand wheel studs had been replaced with left hand ones. From what I recall about the research on it, it had served as a command vehicule in Toronto. When it was sold the motor was in need of rebuild or shortly thereafter. It still had the original permanent oil filter on it (rotate the handle once a day, drain weekly) Had a poor prep paint job on it, botched fender repair, and beginners bondo job on the front drivers floor. Desperately needed he wiring reworked. Had an auxillary keyed switch to start the motor, it cut power to the coil. I am not after purchasing it, just wanted to know it is well looked after and someone is appreciating it. Would consider buying if it is for sale but my wife says I already have too many projects. Attached is a picture of the M38 from about a year before I sold it. Later, Marc Kruithof Last edited by NorOntScout; 08-09-09 at 01:50. Reason: incorporate pictures |
