Default kapok floats

I came upon these two images on ebay and thought they deserved a thread. They must have floated the Carrier high enough that they could use the tracks to power them through the water.

Default Floating a Universal Carrier

They are interesting and pretty common water crossing images, one of the publications that they can be found in is this one.

Default Mk 1 carrier in water?

Does anybody know what they did with the 2 openings on the lower back of the hull to prevent the water from rushing in?
Derk.

Default Kapok floats

Would you think that they just let water come in as they still could carry it with the water in it .There would be a bigger problem getting it in and out of the water George
