During the strip down of the Loyd, I've not seen any red lead primer at all, what has been present is a light pea green under the olive drap. Has anyone else seen this on their vehicles?
On top of the wartime OD is a lighter shade which I presume is a post war Belgian addition.... any idea what colour was popular in the 1950s for the Belgian army? Note: Primer and OD above the final number in the attachment.

mine had like a battleship grey primer, then the olive drab, then a truck load of red.....some white in places too.... be carefull when stripping that stuff off, and make sure that when you come to re prime you use an etch primer (if going onto bare metal) i have etch primed mine then a second layer of red oxide then 4 coats of base.

The NR2 Brown was introduced around 1943 for the Italy campaign if I recall correctly, Mainly after the desert fiasco prior to Alamein with various units all having different cammo schemes, it was problematic for ground commanders to ID vehicles as friend or foe.... The Canadian / British coalition standardised the paint schemes for specific theaters of war after this point. Paul I wonder if yours has been to Italy or prepped for Italy / MEF campaign ? I know that vehicles (carriers) produced after 43 on orders for MEF were dispatched in the NR2 brown from factory (rather than the olive drab)
interesting stuff these things are like large pandora's box's.....tonnes of secrets within ![]()

SCC 2 came in in 1942 due to a shortage of the pigments required to produce the then standard base colour of Khaki green No3 I believe.

Just last week I had a small sample batch of spraying enamel made up to match the original green found in several places on the Scout Carrier.
It turned out to be an Australian standard colour, the details of which I can post up in the next day or so. I simply had the stuff made up with flattener to make it lustreless and also had some made up in aerosol cans because I was too lazy to keep mixing and thinning etc. It's actually a truly awful shade of olive green but I am 100% certain it is the original correct factory finish for this particular vehicle. The aerosol exercise turned out to be VERY expensive and I won't be doing that again in a hurry ! Cheers Phill
