Best way to drain the radiator in a 42 GPW?

I bought this GPW from a dude in Arizona. I don't trust the coolant mix it could be mostly water. I would like to drain it and fill it with good old Canadian Tire antifreeze. Winter is coming.

Curious isn't there a drain tap on the bottom of the radiator? Is there a bottom rad hose? If so just remove the bottom hose and let the coolant drain out then replace the hose then fill with antifreeze/water mixture

Hi Nelson,
There sould be 2 drain cocks. 1 on the engine block behind the Gene/oil filler tube and the other one, on the pipe on the bottom of the rad.

Sounds like you need to get yourself a complete WW2 Jeep manual, which will give you step by step instructions for most repairs.

I know Portrayal Press has a good reprint. Which should be able to answer most of your questions.

I have one and find it very usefull.

Thank you Eric for stating the obvious; don't start a vehicle project without the manuals. Military vehicle manuals are very complete and thorough. In particular the basic MB/GPW manual TM9-803 (readily available; I stock them @$40), answer all of the questions that Nelson84 has asked.
Personally I can't imagine starting a project without the pertinent manuals.

I have a maintenance manual TM-10-1513, but it kind of sucks.

Hello Nelson.

I have the manual that you are talking about. Its not very often i look to that one for reference material. But it does have a few things that the other one does not.

Usually i go to the Complete WW2 Military Jeep Manual, which contains TM 9 803 (TM 9-1803A and TM 9-1803B).

I beleive that is the one that Brian has in stock.

You will find it much more useful.

Its the one that usually gets grease smudges on and gets left in the garage rather than in the library. I even lent it to my mechanic when i ran into some serious engine problems.

It will also fit in the glove box for road trips. You just never know when you might need it.

Brian is also a good source of Military Vehicle Parts.

There are a few dealers here in Ontario. Each has their own specialties.
