Default "B" Series oil filter

According to the Champ site the Crosland 432 oil filter will fit the range of Rolls Royce "B" Series engine. This is all well and good but the part No. is obsolete in Australia, and after spending hours on the internet seems that with one exception (Khaki Imports in USA) they are not available elsewhere. (Sounds like Croslands themselves are no longer as well?)
Does anyone know of another suitable filter?
I know that there is an adaptor for screw on filters, but have been told that while OK for the B40, they do not cope with the oil flow in a B60.
What do all you Ferret guys use?
Marcus Glen stock the original style, but I would prefer something closer, and I imagine that they will not be cheap.
last time I asked Tim Vibert he only had Moth Eaten (I mean this literally) originals.
Any help whatsoever will be most appreciated.....
Rich.

The spin on oil filter adapter works well on the B60 such as the Ferret, no issues there.

Thanks for your input Robin, still trying, but may have to go this way and hope for the best.

Hi Howard,

Those dimensions don't sound quite right for a RR B range oil filter. I normally use the original felt types. Have just cross referenced the Crosland 432 number to AC Delco (UK) list and come up with these dimensions, perhaps Rich can confirm them as correct?

AC FF52
Outside diam. 3.87"
Length 9.38"
Inside diam. 0.5"

regards, Richard

Crosland is still alive and well and still market under their own brand name.

However they have been taken over by a company called SOGEFI

SITE IS AT

www,sogefifiltration.co.uk

Hope this helps

Howard,
Nice try but no cigar. Thanks for taking the trouble to look.
Richard,
Those dimensions look about right, Measuring from outside the canister though because I do not want to pull it apart until I get a filter. I have found an original style one (not cheap) over here, but the vendor has not replied to my last e-mail..... So I will certainly be following that AC Delco number up, just once I would like to go into a shop and buy something over the counter. Thanks heaps
Col,
I had found that site, But found it next to useless because none of the links (ie. the catalogue in particular) would work. Was in the process of contacting them, but will wait to see how I go with my two other options. I thank you for checking that out for me.
Ta guys
Rich.

Richard a few suggestions in a moment. But first what NOT to buy unless you have the filter assembly for it. These are for early engines that have no bypass in the filter mount, this bypass came into play if the filter became seriously clogged. There are a lot floating around like this that have a blind end.

Some of them look to be of recent manufacture.

Of course the Domestic Management Code 6M51 is incorrect it should read 6MT1 & in the good old days LV6/MT1

I believe these equate to British Filters Part No.1003, Type LF2/31B or LF3.

The correct one for most of us is LF3F in LV6/MT1/BG/LF3/35 later codified as 6MT1/2940-99-800-8003

From 1992 LF3/35 was quoted as 6MT1/2940-99-800-8051

In my accumulated cross references I too have Crossland 432 but also a later number B674D

I also have Tecalemit Type FA2688 LV6/MT1/TT/FG2430 that suggests Type FG2430 as well, it was later codified as 6MT1/2940-99-950-3538

Confusing i'nit!

Hi Clive,
Yes I was aware that there were 2 differing, original filters, had not realised what the difference was though.
Richard,
Spent an hour with the head guy at a very good filter place today, he actually used their old collection of printed catalogues and manuals, so got a lot further than my last visit with a younger generation (also incredibly helpful) who relied on the computer. The Cosland 432 was there on the page, but not available now. The AC FF52 was cross referenced to several other brands, but confusingly appeared to be of different sizes, although some were for Rolls Royce, but shorter.
Confusing? Certainly was.
I have managed to source an original LF3F, once it gets here I hope to go back to Riverland Filters (Bit of a plug for them, they deserve it) armed with this and the B674D number for another try.
Thanks guys
Rich.

Richard,

Forgot to mention, the Rolls application for FF52 listed in my old AC catalogue is the C series diesels used in Euclid and Vickers Vigor, etc.
