Default Go the CATTERS!!

Geelong wins the 2007 AFL grand final! Woo hoo.
Bad luck to Port Adelaide who got smashed.
The town is going crazy already, people are outside on the street waving their scarves and flags. Won't risk the city tonight, time to head for the hills, off to Inverleigh for a roast diner and a few quiet ones with my girl.

Sorry Bob and all you other SA fans.

I would hazzard a guess at Australian Football League.

Probably not the same as good old CFL or NFL football but rather the same football our UK friends play as well (soccor to us ignorant types...)

Default way off

Well I'm back and you are all way off, not rugby, not soccer, not english football but Aussie rules, the greatest game in the world ( yes I'm bias ).
Look up: http://www.gfc.com.au/

The city did go crazy last night and there is still a feeling of euphoria today.

Ever heard of Darren Bennett who played for the San Diego Chargers ? He was the punter he retired from AFL at the age of Thirty because of the strain and punishment on his body so he went and played NFL for ten years until he retired from sport to spend time with his family . Does that say anything about AFL ?

or Wikipedia

The Cats did an awesome job of tearing port apart !

Default Where's my thinking

Thanks Plushy for the link and the explanation. Not thinking straight at the moment.
Apparently they closed off some of the town centre in Geelong last night as there was just too many people. I had friends there who said they saw streakers and people car surfing and just general mayhem. But all in good spirits.
Will be watching the news tonight.

Default Aust Vs Canada Rugby World Cup

I sat up last night to watch the Australia - Canada match wholly for the comedic relief. It was so entertaining I just had to watch the repeat this afternoon...............
I really can't say that the words Canada and Rugby should be used in the same sentence................

Default Grand Final

Hi Ryan

Well done to the Cats, Geelong certainly needed some good news given the closure of your engine plant. We didn't see the match other than catch the last few minutes at Plushys. The Phoenix recovery was our priority. As for Port Power, at least they were there and they once again showed all the VFL teams that Victorian footy clubs and the AFL in general are legends in their own minds.

Ahhh but at least Canada has a Rugby Team.

I fail to see an Aussie Hockey Team playing anywhere.

You know, Hockey? THE toughest sport.

GAWD !

Aussies play real hockey and win gold medals at the Olympics regularly ( well, the womens team does anyway ).... We don't play that ice game , where most of the time , they seem more interested in punching each other . I won't mention the ridiculous money they get either ..... we are guilty of that too . Footy is a religion here , literally, in the true sense . It's tribal, neanderthal , said enough .

Default Football?

Oh, there's a game of football on this weekend?
I thought all that guff finished last weekend.
The last (only) game I went to was the 1966 grand final. More than enough to last a lifetime.

Aussie vs Canada in Lacross..now that would be interesting!!!

I think that would be a tad one sided also...but of course you can hit each other with the sticks in that game..and very little padding....could be worth watching!!! LOL

Ah, yes: Australian Rules Football. Should only be encouraged. Just think of all those thousands, ney, tens of thousands of people it keeps hemmed into stadiums or glued to TVs on a weekend, and out of the countryside where us other folk chose to play.... (well, before they banned having fun with firearms, anyway....)

Ahh, the memories.

No, I have NOT attempted to learn the rules of that US Grid Iron thingie since I got here, anymore than I could tell you the seemingly perverse rules that appear to regulate Aussie Rules. I do miss a good hot meat pie and sauce, and a coldie on a Saturday, but can't say I ever enjoyed that repaste at a football game of any code. Keefy and I seem to have similar regard to such games, so I'm content that I'm not alone.

That should stir the pot!
