Hi All
It was the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on 07/12/1943. I do not recall any mention on Radio, TV or in the Newspaper here in South Australia. I would have thought this was a significant event that should have been mentioned so that the younger generations are kept abreast of historic events that changed the world. Maybe it was more an American thing but I believe we should all be greatful because if the Americans had not entered the war in the Pacific, who knows we could all be speaking Japanese now. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Tony ![]()

Nothing was mentioned here in Queensland either Tony only a mention of how the Chinese feel about the deal to allow 2500 US Marines to be based in Darwin.
We must never forget the US Servicemen and Women who gave their lives in the Pacific during WW2 to protect Australia and New Zealand. May they never be forgotten ![]()

I fully agree with your sentiments. I am forever concerned that our younger generation do not seem to know much about the past and history appears to be forgotten. I am sure they do not even realise what a different world we would be living in but for those that made the ultimate sacrifice. LEST WE FORGET. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Tony ![]()

There was more coverage on the local news and on the TV military/history channels this year than normal here in Texas. In recent years there is usually only a few comments about the event. And the TV stations usually randomly feature documentaries with little concern for airing them around their actual anniversary.
Wonder if much was said in Hawaii since the Japs own so much of the real estate there now.

I did hear a brief comment on the South Australia ABC News today that there was an event in Hawaii today with some veterans attending. I can't understand why nowdays you hear very little on WW2 Historic events. Maybe they think it was all too long ago. But with the Hollocaust there is always plenty coverage around to remind you of the event. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Tony ![]() ![]()

Sad but true. Soon only the people with a specific interest in the history will remember and care. School kids will probably still grow up knowing about the event, but it will be another meaningless thing to them that might possibly have to be remembered for a few weeks.

Quite good direct coverage from the scene on TV out of Sydney this morning as well as some coverage on the ABC news.

Sorry mate you are correct. I am glad that there was some coverage to mark the event, even if in some cases it was not on the 7th December. I remember visiting the Arizona Memorial some years ago shortly after I left the army and I found it a very moving experience, apart from the large contingent of Japannese tourists running around getting in the way and snapping away with their cameras. It was hard to just stand and reflect and remember. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Tony ![]()
