Default New cast parts, round 2

Hello all

Following the success of the cast Bren pintles I have decided to try again with some other parts.
This time I have made patterns for the square plate that rivets to the floor that the fuel tank straps fix to. They are from a new pattern that allows for the shrinkage factor so the part you will receive will be the same size as the original period part. They will be £7 each, cast in steel.
The second part is the cast pick axe head mount from the rear tool plate and the oval washer that holds the pick head on. Again these are from a new pattern that allows for shrinkage. These are £45 for the mount and washer, cast in steel.

These prices may drop a bit depending on interest. I have had to base them on the very limited quantities that I'm aware of. If you are interested please let me know and we can see if there is enough interest to make the price drop.

I'm using the same foundry as before and the quality of their previous work was great. I'm sure some of the folks who bought pintles will agree. If you have any questions please ask and i'll try to help. Quantity made the pintle job a success, with any luck we can all help each other again.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Richard

There are four square brackets, one per strap that are riveted to the floor the bottom of the straps attach to them. I'll take a picture of the patterns and add them ASAP.

Ah... mine did not have them for some reason it just had the straps bolted to the floor of the carrier they are made from 1/16th (ish) sheet, then a cork bit goes in, and the tank sits on top of that bit. i have a repro one laser cut if you want to borrow it ?

For clarity. large folded bkt , 2 per carrier, behind fuel tanks, mounted to rear plate.
Small folded bkt. 8 per carrier 4 under each fuel tank. They are designed to hold a piece of felt, which is designed to hold water, and rot out your fuel tank.
2nd picture has a cast plate on the end of the strap. This is what you might need from Ben.

OK Folks

Last call for adding your name to the list for parts. I can do any of the parts above or any of the pintle parts from before.

I'll contact anyone who wants parts in the next couple of days to confirm they're still interested.

Thanks

Ben

I went to the foundry today and placed the order, thank you all for your interest.

They are busy but I would hope to see the first parts by the end of the month. I appreciate you all want the bits ASAP but our order is pretty small compared to some of the huge castings that they make. The last order took longer than they quoted but the quality was excellent. I'd sooner wait a little longer and get a better set of parts than hurry them and get bits I'm not pleased with.

Thanks again

Ben

I collected all the parts from the foundry today. I'm planning on post machining the pintles next week then they can all get sent out.

Anyone who had an order for parts but no pintles can expect an email in the next couple of days to arrange posting.

Thanks for the patience, sorry it's taken longer than I would have liked but the foundry have been very busy.

Cheers

Ben

Hey Ben

I'm wondering if there is any chance you could get some of the large thumb screws that hold the lower engine panels in place cast up. There is 8 in total per carrier and they always seem to be missing

I know I would be down for 8.

Ben, i have an original set of the thumb screws in a bag (somewhere) they have all the nice cast details and i think "Ford" as well ( but dont quote me on that until i look) anyway if you want to copy them for the boys not a problem.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Doing the lower and upper bolts isn't a problem but I suspect the price may be. There is a minimum charge for casting parts so I think that they could easily cost £5 each. The other issue is that the top one needs to be tapped, this is easy you can all drill out a hole and run a tap down the centre. The bottom screw will need to have a thread cut too but using a die, the threaded section will need to be turned down to allow the die to run down it's length. This will need to be done on a lathe yourself or it involves me getting them done which will add to the cost. How many would want one if the cost stared pushing £10 each!!

I'll post a new thread over the weekend about two new parts that are ready to be done.

Sorry to put a downer on the bolts but I can't see a cheap way of getting them done but I will ask at the foundry next week.

Thanks

Ben

If there is enough interest, I could get a qoute from a foundry here in London for the thumbscrews on the lower engine panels for the folks here in Canada. Could save a little on postage. I would need 6 to complete my machine.
Not wanting to steal your thunder Ben, but we could have a comparative quote for the screws, and perhaps send to the UK.
