Default Ford Carrier 1824

Thought id start my own thread in documenting the restoration of my carrier: Ford NSW LPN02A 1824

Brief prologue: as most of you are aware already, I purchased the carrier out at a clearing sale at Hungerford on a property called Boorara which has quite a rich history in its own right. I have limited history of the carrier during the war years other then it was most probably used for training purposes for some degree of time, special thanks to Justin for providing pictures of the carrier and his grandfather to prove this theory . At some stage in the last 60 years since then, the carrier founds its way to Hungerford along with 2 others (where abouts of these remains unknown) where it recived "Cosmetic alterations" and was used extensively for scrub removal and clearing. It had been sitting in the station dump for at least 20 years, unforuantly close to a main road so a large portion of parts have grown legs and disappeared so to speak. But no hull is perfect and you have to work with what you've got. A quick inspection of the dump following the sale turn up large quantities of NOS track, diffs, gearboxes, engine covers, brake drums and sprockets and other parts for no extra cost so we left for home happy campers Didnt manage to find those elusive fuel tanks though

First step was to clean 4 inches of red Hungerford sand and dirt out of the floor mixed with engine oil and about 10 thousands bottles that have been smashed inside the hull. After the clean out, the floor is in pretty good condition compliments of the dry weather out west. A small piece of deep rust did appear right where the battery sits, rusted right through the floor in one spot but should be easy fixed.

In the last couple of weeks, the entire hull has bee stripped out: every possible bolt, fitting, steering parts ect have all been removed so we know exactly where we stand, also makes it 100x easier with the sandblasting. As you can see in the pictures when it was at Hungerford, there have been a number of hull plates cut, so all of these have been recut square, cleaned up ready for new inserts. Thanks to Ian for providing some CAD drawings.

Currently the hull is turned upside down and we are at this stage repairing large cracks that have been cause by a hard bang in the front at one point. Reasonably easy to move the plate parts where you want with a front end loader on top and a jack from underneath, but the hardest part is getting the little buggers to stay where you want them after you spot weld them together but patients will provail.

And that pretty much brings you up to speed with the current progress, along way to go. Pictures to follow shortly, just have to find the camera.

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.
Regards Nathan

On another note, I have a spare diff housing if anyone interested. Includes the brackets and clamps that fix the diff to the hull. Can seperate the clamps from the diff if someone wants them seperate. Really only interested in swapping for other parts but may consider cash.

Just some pictures of the floor cracks and hull. The carrier with the tracks still on is SAR 2528 and is going to be used for the running gear for 1824.
