I just sent the two latest titles in the "Weapons of War" series to the printers. One of these looks at the Field and SP versions of the 155-mm.
The second is written by our very own Rob Clarke of Hammond barn fame. Rob succinctly documents the Heavy Utility in all of its variants. Both include several 1:35 scale drawings. Look for these to be available in about 2-3 weeks. ![]()

Clive, We are all waiting with baited breath...
I am sure there will be some interesting responses - particularly about some of the statements made in the HUP book... time will tell.

I'll make a comment: It feels funny to be looking at the pamphlet with the photo of the M109 as a obsolete museum artifact. My last 7 years in the service was spent supporting the guns. It seems like overnight the M109 (and for that matter the M113A2, which was a staple in the military) became redundant.
As always, I am looking forward to these and future new titles. |

I kind of figured that out this year at a milsurp shooting match we attended. My team had been coming in second at these things for almost the last decade....first for uniforms but always a close second for the shooting. This year we finally won both categories and I was at first ecstatic. But then I looked around the remaining teams and realized what we had just become.
Even the term we used to use "New deuce" for the MLVW is now becoming obsolete. The Shilo museum has one being issued to it. Mind you, there was a warning order very recently that the MLVW could remain in service for another 7 years. |

Dano, you will be disappointed. I had hoped to publish one on the M135 series but Andrew Iarocci, who wrote the M38A1 and the M37 booklets, gave up in frustration at Archives' 'security' over these postwar files. The time it took to get these Cold War files released just made it too difficult and with Andrew moving away from Ottawa the challenges just became crazy. Maybe, some day.... C

Hey, Dano,
While you are 'holding out' for the M135 book, I hope you are buying all or at least many of the published editions for your library as well. Publishing each book is a very large outlay of funds, and hurrying to publish the next title or even justifying the funds to do it probably depends in no small measure on how many of the last ones have sold. I know that was the case with the AMEP series my wife and I published in the early to mid-90s. Clive has/is doing the hobby we all enjoy an enormous service by publishing the sort of titles no main stream publisher would look at. I've enjoyed everyone of the titles I've purchased and always learned something new, even if my main interest is Australian equipment usage, not Canadian. OK: off my soap box now..... Mike C |

Well, it's true that SP hasn't turned a profit yet, after 17 years of publishing books on Canadian military history as seen through its material culture. That said, as long as I have a well-paying job I don't mind subsidizing the books in order to get the information out there.
I take enormous satisfaction in bringing a new book to market, this includes the concept, working with the author, identifying images, getting the text edited (thanks Doug Knight), doing the layout and negotiating with the printers. Then comes the marketing, invoicing, packing, etc.. Over the past 17 years I have published over 65 titles. In 2002, DND honoured me with the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and this year the Organization of Military Museums presented me with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, so it's not totally without recognition. Overall, the members of MLU have been super supportive, both in assisting with information and photos and with buying the finished product. To all, thank you. Clive
