CMP 1500wt Tyres

There has already been so many posts about tyres, I am actually almost afraid to post this.

While I would like to have original style tyres on my CMP, I guess I will be settling for WW2 US NDTs.

Since I have not gotten my butt up to Manitoba to get it, I was thinking it might be cheaper to buy tires in Canada and have them shipped to where the truck is. Or does everyone get their tyres in the US?

Just being thrifty.

hi Jon,

If you are using U.S. pattern tyres on your CMP, make sure they will fit OK . The actual internal diameter seems to vary a little from maker to maker , but, generally U.S. 900-16's are a tight fit on WW2 British/Canadian rims .

It confuses everyone as the post WW2 Dunlop Trak Grips often seen on Ferrets ect., are actually made to the U.S. specs., and are also a tight fit on WW2 rims .

It is a brain teaser , but its true !

Jonathan; if you want original style tyres, hunt down some 9.00-16 Dunlop TrakGrip T24 Run Flat R.F.H.S.2 tyres as fitted to Ferrets - as Canada used Ferrets there might be some stock left. They have an original style profile, but are runflats so get ready for a harsh ride.

ND or NDCC tread tires can be bought from a number of US-based suppliers.

You always have great information. Yes, I was alluding to the t24s, but everyone seems to have problems finding them.

Yeah, I will have to wedge US types on the CMP rim, but it seems enough people have already been able to do that.

The thought here is to buy NDTs in Canada at a Canadian value and save some money in the conversion.

Or am I over thinking things?

Jonathan, as far as I can see from the other end of the ocean, it seems it is easier to find Non-Directional Tread tires in the US. I can't see why US-sourced tyres would be cheaper when bought in Canada, and then shipped back to the US. Or am I "under thinking" things?

I have been involved in the installation of both the M-series 9X1600 and the ferret run flats onto CMP rims. Here in Manitoba, we were getting our run flats from a source in Saskatchewan who had bought scrap tires from the British in Suffield. There might be a few of these left. I would be very surprised if any Canadian issue ferret tires remained anywhere; many of the Canadian ferets I have seen had the tires worn to the point of qualifying as California winter tread; they were near bald.
There was also a place in Edmonton (I believe it was dollar tire) which had a decent quantity of the ferret run flats, 5 tires for $400 cdn.
I prefer the ferret tires for their run flat capability and of course, their correct appearance. If you want some decent 9X16 NDCC tires, there is a source in Manitoba for these at a decent price as well, albeit used. PM me and I can give you the name and number for the sources. Dirk D likely has or can get these numbers as well.
There is also a set of good ferret tires available out of Saskatchewan but they are a bit pricey ($4500 cdn), they also come with a C8A HUP.

I will be in Edmonton (YEG) ,with a truck ,for 3 weeks-a month in Sept-oct. If anyone wanted me to have a look at the place and tires then supply me with a Name ,of the place, and exactly what you want. If you wanted them shipped I could probably do that too. I have found tha UPS one week service has been cheaper than Canada post on larger items..and way faster. I just shipped a rollbar from YEG to the states for 100 bucks less with ups.

Doesn't matter, Marks right he just bought it. I think he had it listed at enough places for $4500 for solong that the price finnaly took. There is a C15A with gin palace box coming up for sale locally that I believe has a real good set of those run flats with it.

The actual dollars ended up somewhere in the middle - including cost of hauling which the seller, Mike Heiberg, did most promptly, all 842 km of it. Those run-flats are now sitting in my back yard, holding up the HUP, as of Tuesday p.m., after doing the deal Mon. evening. Good thing it's an HUP - a 15cwt would be too wide for my parking space.

Aha! Mike Heiberg's C8A HUP PERS-3 with posh 1C11 body - great buy! We've seen some pictures of this truck in the threads Chevrolet C8A article and CMP and Penguin for sale, but go ahead, spoil us...
