We have a special friend that we would like to give some reasonably good wine to, as we don't drink wine are there any suggestions out there to help with this dilemma.

Max,
I would suggest a good single malt scotch whiskey over a good red. I think you good friend would appreciate it more.

No takers yet Max?
Sorry, can't help you out. Would have been more handy if you could run a V8 side valve or stove bolt 6 on it. ![]() Dave

Max you have one of the best fine wine makers in your area. Brown Brothers. They make the worlds greatest Port. (IMHO) (BTW, my wine knowledge is up there with my brain surgery knowledge)
With only slight bias, New Zealand produces many great wines. Mills reef, Morton Estate, are a couple from near my home. There are many more around the rest of the country. Picking up on selected blurb, Australasian wines are world beaters. Don't be afraid to buy local. ![]()

If the friend is male then I agree with Lynn, go for a port. Tawny or Grandfather are the best, and at least 7 year or preferably 10 year old.

forget that fortified stuff and go for some of the best cool climate wines available from the central west NSW eg Ross Hill, Bloodwood, Highland Heritage, Murray Smith, Mortimores, we even make a great Apple Cider, come for a drive to the National Field Days and go home Loaded.

forgot to mention the honeymooners have left on their trip (no not in the mini, which by the way is still going well, done over 500 miles so far) maybe they can sneek home a good old drop or two from scotland where Ihear they make the stuff, or is irish whiskey any better.

Try Wolf Blass wines, espceially their reds.
They are a medium priced wine, but good value for the money. Peraonally, I cant drink red wine. Very bad experience as a teenager. Beware the wrath of grapes! Robert, are you a stalker?

Chateau Neuf du Pape is a really snobbish red if you want to put on airs.

A Canadian wine (Mission Hill BC) has just won the 2013 world's best Pinot Noir in the under $30 class.
Canadian wines have won many world competitions, but most Canadian wine is consumed in the country..don't think much gets exported.
