Default Tanks in Town 28-29 August 2004, Mons, Belgium

Predominantly tracked armour, including T16 carrier, but also some CMPs. I hope to make it there this year.

Default Liberation of Mons

Happened to see some newswire photos of parade from Mons on Sunday, the 29th.

One featured a Stuart, which was said to be an actual tank which had taken part in the U.S. Third Army liberation, had British bridge plate on it, and was said to be named "Fish and Chips"

There looks like a GPW in the background, and a motorcycle, but I coudn't tell what it was - looked maybe BSA or Norton. Another pic was of a 6x6 truck, which I think may be a Diamond T T968.

Thereis also a cabover truck in the background, might have been a GMC AFKX or similar.

Looks like a Sherman here:

Last week there were shots from Paris with a multi-gun halftrack (M2-M17?), a Greyhound, and what looked like a Dodge WC in the parade.

I hope the owner was OK with the gal dancing on his truck.

That's cool.

I lived in Mons for 5 years and clearly remember that Stuart parked in the garden. I'm glad the town and auto club decided to make her a runner. Their museum has many interesting little tidbits including a fuselage section of a Bf 109 the fished out of a pond near the house I used to live in!!

Thanks for posting that, Hanno.

BTW all those yahoo links are dead-ends now.

regards
A
