It's around the same numbering as the WS46 (introduced 1942 with parts in the ZA.148xxx range), so pre-dates that. I think it's a general-purpose waterproof backpack for amphibious landings. The "duffle bag" top and closing cap with the tapes make that seem likely. Might just be for getting WS38 Mk.1 or Mk.2 sets ashore without them filling with salt water. Chris. |

Being 1945 dated, it could potentially have been manufactured for Southeast Asia use rather than for NW Europe.

thanks for your answerd.
The same bag was found in Normandie, France a few years, dated 1944. |

Just being curious, does being bought in Normandy mean that it was actually manufactured for use NW Europe?

The bag looks like it is fitted with a pair of shoulder straps.
If the bag is oriented as if it had a wireless set in it, and was all ready to carry, could that give us a clue as to what wireless it was designed for? Maybe pack the bag with some old newspapers or magazines to fill it out and lets see what it looks like. Another thought. Was it actually designed for a wireless set, or perhaps another piece of signals equipment that would have needed protection of this type? David |

I recall seeing a bag similar to that for the No.18 (or 68) set but would need interior dimensions of the bag to confirm that. I think this possible because the 18 wasn't waterproof. My second best suggestion would be the No.46 set except it is waterproof and therefore wouldn't need the bag. A specialized type of equipment (ie. ship to shore) outside the usual radio sets is always a possibility too. |

Daniel,
When I first looked at the pictures of the bag it reminded me of the configuration of the carrying straps on the Supply Unit No. 4 for the WS22. I had some free time and decided to do some research to see if I could prove a WS22 connection. I found reference to ZA 14044 on page 53 of this document: http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archiv...structions.pdf The nomenclature is different in that ZA 14044 is referred to as "Covers Immersion, No 2" there are also 2 notes: "Only issued with early sets" and "Only issued when specially authorized" I hope this helps, Colin |

[QUOTE=wendel daniel;240309]Thanks for all informations.
The reference ZA 14044 is the reference for the N°2 WS 22 bag, but certainly used Under the indication N°3 for an other radio because the WS 22 is not a manpack ? QUOTE] The WS22 is a man-pack radio. Not one of the most practical as it needs to be carried by more than one person. Tim |

Good one, Bruce.
If only they made a bottle the size of that pack! David |
