Has any one have information about the mounting of a Bren Gun on a 25 PDR gun?
See the attached picture. This configuration was used to practice direct fire target engagement. It was far cheaper than using regular ammunition and also allowed direct fire practice to occur on any small arms range. If anyone has some information how this was directed on the range and how the mount was build or is available please let me know. Gilles Last edited by CWO (ret) Gilles Aubé; 04-12-15 at 16:17. |

Clive showed me that photo at work the other day and asked what it was for, so either it was you that sent it to him or the photo is making the rounds. There is a fellow in West of me who says he has used these in the reserves sometime in the late 50s. Here is the similar setup on a Bofors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy_fWmKMSSA Sub cal has been around a long time. It both allows cheaper ammunition, as well as allowing "live firing" on much smaller ranges than would otherwise be possible. I have a bracket out in the shed that I suspect is to hold a rifle on an artillery barrel for a similar sub cal device. There are also similar (but much smaller) brackets to attach a service rifle to the side of a Boys rifle to allow indoor training. The Canadian Forces is presently in the market for a 14.5mm sub cal trainer for the artillery. Now the battery can just load their guns in a panel van and head to the range. http://www.casr.ca/doc-npp-artillery-trainer.htm Last edited by rob love; 06-02-15 at 04:50. |

I am not sure what gun it is for. I'll take it to work and try it on a selection of pieces to see what it might have been from.

Hi Gilles,
we have made similar mount for our 6pdr before we made it blank-firing. A friend of mine made it, so I am not sure if he just made it from the pictures or had any blue-prints. Anyway we used it with a blank-firing Bren during few of our events with great success. We used ropes to trigger it. Here is a period picture of the Czechoslovak Brigade drill with 17pdr.

75mm Pack Howitzer had a sub-calibre mount to attach a 37mm Gun Barrel to the top of the Pack Howitzer's recoil assembly.
I have drawings for these somewhere. Tim |
