Default Wanted: Polar Bears jeep census numbers

A KTR member is looking for pictures of jeeps in service with the 49 West Riding Division (Polar Bears) with readable census numbers. The pictures he has found do not show them.

Who can help?

Thanks in advance!
Hanno

Default West Riding

I surfed onto a Dutch website www.fubarmilitaria.nl last week. He has a number of very striking photos and stories of the North Sea coastal provinces of Holland in 1944-45. One set is of an arms collection point run by 49th in an area quite close to combat between the Canadian Army and the German 6th Fallschirmjager Division. Even in surrender, those were some tough-looking opponents. Of miitaria interest, a lot of the Germans were carrying K98 rifles, but many were also carrying Italian Carcanos.

Hi Hanno

Sorry for the delay. These pictures from my collection may be of interest, though they don't show census numbers. The one with all-weather 'improvements' may be post-war. Any idea where the town square may be?

Thanks for the pictures Alan.

What a beaut, that jeep with makeshift hardtop.... Could indeed be postwar, when there was less of a need to exit the vehicle quickly and there must have been much more time on hand to tinker.

I would place my bets on that town square being in Germany, that style of building is more often seen there than here in Holland.

Hanno, there are a couple of jeep photos in an album for sale at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ORIGINAL-W...item1c4c514ecc

One of them looks as if it has serial 4935808 - but it's not clear!
