Default Jack colour?

I've always painted my jacks black, seemed the right colour. Then i cam across this picture, the jacks red, hmmmm any idea's?

Can't really argue with a colour picture. I'm sure they were all different colours. Some black, some red and some different shades of the army colours of the time.

I had one - the same as you have on the photo in original colour and it was ugly light grass green.
