Wanted: Rifle clips for Cab 12 CGT

I am looking for 8 rifle clips like these for my CGT.
Do any one know where I can find any, they do not have to be originals accurate copies will do fine.

I havent seen that type of box before, what is it from?, but yes is a rifle clip that sits on the side of it I am looking for.
The clip schould be the same as fitted to the other types of CMPs.

I have a half dozen NOS hiding in the shed, but they aren't going anywhere I'm afraid.

After that teaser, I will say that they could be fabricated and gum dipped with tool dip available at Cdn tire (and others). If you heat them to reddish colour and quench in oil, or else reddish in collour and cover them in dry sand so they slowly cool, you can likely get some spring tension out of them. However do that before you gum dip them.

They can also be found with leather covering rather than the gum dip.


Oooops, I just noticed the poster in in Copenhagen....no Canadian tire stores there I suppose.

Thank you very much for the tips, both are very usefull, making them in sheet metal just dont give the right effect so if I am able to get some spring tension in them I would be perfect, and the gum dip looks very usefull I must se if I can find it in Denmark.

I would still very much like an original clip to make the copies from.

How are you going with your search for these? I have two originals that are sitting on my shelf and need to go to a good home.

They would have had leather covers as they are not plastic dipped.

Hi Niels, I had a batch made afew years ago and have some left. I will check up the barn tomorrow for you. They are made of sprung steel like the originals but will need to have the leather fitted.

Leather covers, made from vegetable tanned undyed kangaroo hide.

Wayne Henderson has some (old and decayed) samples that he is going to check this against.

This is a Thompson clip from the Chev 6 seater (Aust).
Different clip with the original leather in 2 pieces, the same general style.
Single fold and stiched top and bottom.

As mentioned in a previous post, there are two different size clips.

There is a smaller one (rifle clip #1) for the barrel and a larger one (rifle clip#2) for the hand stock.

Brian Asbury has the smaller ones, or he did NOS, which were used when mounting the rifle vertical with a wooden block.

When mounted horizontal as in an MB/GPW or UC it would have both.

The larger ones are the harder one to find, i am looking for one.

There were also styles that just had the bracket minus the mount that had leather rivetted to it.

Hi does anyone have four of the large version of the rifle clips ?

Based on our expereince at the Barn....All the clips are the same ...some in leather some in rubber dipped.

The difference is the bracket used to install them in CMP.... in gun tractors they were mounted with out the vertical 1/4 inch brackets.

In the cab 11/12 they are mounted using a shorter bracket to take into account the fact that the back wall of a cab 11/12 is taller than a cab 13. On the short back wall of the cab 13 the mounting bracket is almost twice as tall. Both are mounted with 3 screws on the cab11/12 and two screws on the cab 13.... I mean flat head machine screws 1/4 20.

UC were no doubt using the same spring clip but may have used a different bracket to suit the UC features.

My original thought was also that they also all where the same.
and you are quite right about how they are mounted in the Cab 11/12 and Cab 13.
But it is a bit different in the gun tractor, the clips are here mounted above the doors.
Here the front ones are the same as in the normal lorries, but the rear clips, for the stock of the riffle, are about 1 cm wider and bit taller that than the front ones.
I had it confirmed by a friend who has an original untouched Cab 12 CGT.
