Default How to disengage the gearbox selectors in a Landy

Mark Sierant sent me this image of himself trying to pull Ashley Wilson's C15A out of a ditch at Cowra recently.

According to Mark: "Unfortunately the Landy was not up to the job - the force applied to the gearbox moved the selectors out of alignment requiring on the spot repairs."

Keith,
The question is, what was Ashley doing to be in the ditch, bit of a spin on the road maybe?
If I am not mistaken the observer looks like Max's big brother, John.

Ahhh. We'd need to ask Ashley what he was doing in the ditch. Perhaps he was just looking for trouble!
And yes, your personnel identifying skills are well up to scratch, it is indeed John Hedges.

And not any old common or garden Landy either, a SIIB if I'm not hugely mistaken.

Just as pretty? C'mon, Mark!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course...

Default Series IIB Land Rover

From what I gather, the SIIB Forward Control wasn't up to much at the best of times. Too bad about the selectors. I assume the rear axle half-shaft survived?

Default Landie survived

No Broken axles, the selectors only needed to be undone on the shafts and reset so that they engaged in the right position. The gearbox on these forward controls are all hellical cut as opposed to a standard landy with spur cut gears. I hate to think of the force applied to push the gears apart but all seems to have survived the event with a 300km trip home completed with drama.
