In the instance of the WS-19, does anyone know the sizes of the screws and special washers used to attach the crystal calibrator to the side of the PSU? They’re not listed in the manual. Thanks.

Hello James.
They are a slotted pan head machine screw, 8-32 x 1/4-inch, with matching internal toothed lock washers. You may end up needing to find 1/2-inch ones and trimming them back. Clearances inside the PSU Case will be critical, to allow for its safe removal from its case with the calibrator mounted. Hope this helps with the project. David |

David,
As always, you’ve come through! Much thanks.

You are welcome, James.
Not sure my explanation covered all the bases, however. The pan head is necessary as it ends up inside the PSU Case when the calibrator is mounted. That gives clearance for getting the PSU in and out of its case. The screw shank ends up sticking into the calibrator case, where it needs to be short enough not to snag the calibrator chassis when it needs to be removed and replaced. David |

That’s a good reason. By the way, are those UNF or BSF threads? I ask, because I recently restored the lunette assembly on my No1Mk1 trailer, and found both types as original equipment in close proximity to each other.

even the manual omits the screw size except that they are round head. If the calibrator is mounted flat on top the crystal holder has to be rotated.

James, As you have several US 19 sets I wonder if they could be from this batch. I found this file while searching the Canadiana archive and have posted to a couple of user groups.

That’s interesting, but my sets couldn’t have been in that particular group because one was made in 1943, one in 1944, and though the other one doesn’t have a data plate, it came from Canada. That’s not to say they still weren’t in the system though.

Edit: I’ve no idea why this posted sideways like that. It’s frustrating.
