Wanted : A source for part no 14 in the picture please . Brake adjusting cams . I need two wide and one thinner . For my 1944 Chev C-15 A 4x4 under restoration . Thanks .

Your CMP has Ford brakes. If you can determine the Ford part number you can probably get them from an antique Ford parts supplier. Here is van pelt’s listings.

Front axle is same as rear axle......
Group 5.0551 part number 92Y2028, CAM, front/rear anchor pin. Page 129 of the parts book.Wrong.....rear part no is 91T2028 ....fits inside a matching recess in brake shoe.....off centre cam does the brake adjusting....... 4 per axle. I am sure I have some from all the axles we have taken apart over the years. Not sure what you mean that one is thin and the other 2 wide..... there is only one listing for the cams. Not sure if Mac Auto carried them. Let me know who you want them from East or West........... or contact the Quebec guys....anyone who has worked on a CMP has some of them spare....Francis Lafrance, Luc from the artillery group or will mail some to you. Cheers I just need to dig them out in the barn........

In my copy of the C15A-04 parts book, there are different cams listed for front (92Y2028) and rear (91T2028), both are Ford part numbers (easy enough to tell by their format). Both are the full circle shape in the image Paul attached above. (i.e. same shape as 91A2028). I'm not sure what the detail differences in the parts are, but there must be something for Ford to have spent the effort to inventory the different parts.

Phil , and Grant please explain why my Chev truck has Ford brakes … Do you mean to say C-15 A 4 x 4 were equiped with Ford brakes ? GM could not make brakes ? . Thanks for the help friends .

All 4x4 CMP 15cwt, 30cwt, 60cwt and Gun Tractors have Ford brakes. It is part of the CMP standardisation.

Lynx Scout car is a bit like that , but opposite, Ford Axle with Chev brakes!

Hi Robert
When I started getting my HUP on the road, many many moons ago (1979) the brakes drove me crazy. This was before I knew that other crazy people restored these things. I could find the rear brake parts in the Chevy civilian parts books but not the front. It wasn't until I started cleaning the grease of the front brake shoes that I found the had either the little Ford script F stamped on the shoes and other parts. That's about the time I started writing letters (yes actual letters on paper) to CMP owners in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. One of these was to Bart Vanderveen who explained that crossing parts particular between Ford and Chevy was part their cooperation to produce the greatest number of trucks. Ford had more capability to produce brake units and once you start down that road why have Chevy start making copies. This also kept parts replacement easier. I believe that Chevy axle assemblies were used on Fords. As mentioned if you go through CMP Parts book you will find various part numbers both Ford and Chevy listed in the others parts book. Part number is different for the rear and should be 91T2028

Thank you Andrew , Tony , Phil & Bob . I am amazed and greatful for all the information you are providing . I get it , Ford brakes on Chevy trucks and Chevy axles on Ford trucks . CMP trucks are a study in wartime manufacturing . Merci, your friendship is priceless .

So why the different width adjuster cam? The shoes must be different front to rear? or is it something else?
