Finally have my HUP on the road - after ONLY seven years. Lots of detail still to tidy up but now I can drive and enjoy. Does anyonehave a source for the rubber extrusions that seal the side-curtains?

John - Needless to say it looks great, as to the side curtain weather seals my HUP (June 1945) side curtains has canvas flaps which sort of seal out the weather I have pictures posted on my web site (see http://www.canadianmilitarypattern.com/Posting.html ) though the pictures show the side curtains on my C60S (1942) they actually are the curtains from my HUP. The only rubber weather seals are the ones around the windscreens which are the T type molded rubber which is available in rolls.

Will take more detail pictures if that will help.

Looking at your HUP and mine I realize that mine has been on the road with me for 30 years and needs to be restored again. But that is the fun of these things.

My 42 HUP came with a partially complete set of curtains.I have no way of telling if they are contemperary with the HUP. I am refurbishing them and reproing the missing ones. The base of the curtain is sealed with a right angle extrusion and the sides seal with a keyhole shaped extrusion. The image shows a tattered corner of an original.

Not surprised to see the use of rubber on your '42, that was one of the reasons that I pointed out that my HUP is '45. Did your HUP also have rubber mud flaps on the fender, my '42 C60S has rubber mud flaps on the front fender while my HUP has canvas on front and rear. I think the change from rubber to canvas was made as stocks of existing rubber materials were exhausted. This may also mean that the rubber weather stripping you are looking for was used on some GM product in the '30s.

You might be able to use the sheet rubber that is used for rubber membrane roof. I have used it to replace various sheet rubber type seals used between body parts on my C60. Check with a commercial roof out fit, take a picture of your truck with you they'll probably give you as much scrap as you need. I even got a 8x12 sheet I used on the radio box of my C60 for free.

The rubber tube wrapped in canvas was replaced on my window frames by a jute type roll wrapped in canvas.

My mudflaps are canvas but the curtain seals are rubber. I have a source for the "keyhole" extrusion but it's a bit bigger than the original. The problem is the " right angle" extrusion. One leg is clamped in the metal frame leaving the other leg horizontal to seal against the top of the door. I haven't figured out how to do this with flat rubber.We're talking cosmetics because I dont intend to drive in conditions that require a good seal. John

Funny thing is that I've driven my HUP in HEAVY rain with out the driver and passenger front window in and unless there is a strong cross wind it is amazingly dry. Nothing like driving in a Jeep with just the top.

Driving with the side curtains is no pleasure as it keeps the noise in and dramatically reduces the vision to the out side.
