Brian, could this be from your prototype?

Default Sorry, Cliff!

It's a portion of this image:

which is a view looking forwards into one of the prototype HUPs... but the view through the front windscreen shows a single CMP type rear door unlike Brian's

It must have been a sister truck to Brian's because it has the raised door pattern.

Here's a shot of Brian's prototype:

Default HUP prototype photos

Hi Keith,

Thanks for posting those photos again and I apologize for not responding initially back in September. Do you know the source of the photos? Are there any identifying numbers/dates on them?

If these photos are of a prototype HUP, it definitely was built after my prototype as most of the features shown found their way into production.

One thing I have not seen before (in top photo) is the strap (C) to secure the seatback (B) to the left side rear window frame when not in use. I would doubt if this ever made it into production. Locating it there looks like an afterthought, especially when the seatback seems to just hang there in an awkward way. Given that there are two positions provided for the seatback on the seat, I wonder why they felt it had to be stored somewhere else anyway. This picture shows only one expanded metal bin (for side curtains) on the right side.

Brian

Hi Brian

Those photos came from the Army Museum at Bandiana and were with a batch of pics of our equivalent built on the Chev and Ford 15CWT 4X2 chassis, so obviously the HUP was the basis for the Aussie design (6 seat utility) which had the higher roofline and was not as strongly constructed.

Thanks for that Keith. It is interesting to see both photos and one survivor of the prototypes of some of the body styles that were used.

cheers
Cliff
