Default Hägglund Bv 206

In the Sergeants mess forum - Avatar thread - I red a few things about Bv 206 in Canada.

Canada and Sweden has almost no common military history besides competing for beer in UN-peacekeeping on various places.

But we have Bv 206 together. How are they used in Canada?

In Sweden we have several versions (now beeing phased out):
Signals - general transport - anti-tank (first 90 mm recoilless guns later missiles, TOW and Bofors BILL 56) - ambulances etc.

Here an Inf Platoon of 19th Inf Bde (Artic organization).

Default BV206s in Canada

Here in Shilo we were recently using them to tow the French Giat (? not sure if spelling is correct)light howitzer. They were also used for the Battery Command post as well as one for an MRT (mechanics). The hitch on the gun tractors were replaced with ones off the MLVWs (M-35 Cdn) because the BV hitches were too light for the role.
After about 3 or 4 years here we fired them off to the PPCLI in Edmonton.
While in MooseJaw about 10 years back we had one issued to the base in an ambulance role for Crash Rescue purposes. Prior to that the base had been using 3 helicopters for that role (1 to fly and two being repaired) so the cost of a BV206 and all the other goodies they got (argos, quad ATVs, trilers, the BV etc.. )were cheap in comparison.

Default BV 206's in Canada

There are a large number of ex mil BV's here in Canada in private hands. There are a bunch in Alberta used in resource based industries.

I am connected with one that is currently apart for repair.

Don't we also use the The Carl Gustov and Volvo 6x6'?

BV 206...great piece of kit.

We used them during WINTEXs at Meaford. I believe we had about 30 of them in the inventory at the time.

A former Canadian Defence Minister committed to procuring 800 of them.

Election was lost, procurement issue was therefore down the tubes.

Pity...It's just the sort of all terrain vehicle that we need.
