Tim's is going to Afganistan..(Thanks to Ron Joyce)
Joint Operation! Tim Hortons & Canadian Forces Announce Opening in Afghanistan OAKVILLE, ON, March 8 /CNW/ - Tim Hortons and the Canadian Military are pleased to announce that a Tim Hortons store will open at Kandahar airfield within the next few months. "We are extremely proud to be able to bring a little taste of home to our troops stationed in Kandahar," said Paul House, Chief Executive Officer and President for Tim Hortons. "Tim Hortons has always supported the Canadian Military and we are honoured to work together to make the opening possible." Over the next few weeks, Tim Hortons will convert a trailer normally used during restaurant renovations, and deliver it to the Canadian Forces for use in Afghanistan. Once operational, military personnel will be able to purchase select baked goods and beverages, including Tim Hortons' legendary coffee. The Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency, the morale and welfare arm of the Canadian Forces, will be responsible for staffing, training and operating the location at the Kandahar airfield. "I know I speak for all the men and women of the Canadian Forces when I say that I'm delighted to hear this news," said General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff. "Opening a Tim Hortons to serve our troops in Afghanistan strengthens an already superb relationship between two great Canadian institutions. I would like to thank Tim Hortons for their endless support of the Canadian Forces over the years." Serving those who serve: the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency enhances the morale and welfare of the military community, thus contributing to the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Canadian Forces. the whole country is a gun range for both incoming and outgoing. The trailer is on the base which would also have a range, it may become a special target of its own when the locals find out about it and its importance to the Cdn troops. Gun range , quite appropriate I think. Or first Tim's involved in a live fire shoot. 1ST Tim's in a war zone...definitely a growth industry, anyone up for a franchise? Sean

I didn't think that "Bugger" ,with my name beside it ,reflected my original intention to pass on good news of our troops in Afganistan... And Ma...it is a bugger to throw away a wining Timmies cup ,even if it is a donut.. (For those that don't know what we are talking about ,Tim Horton's is a coffee chain that has prizes printed on the cups and you have to Roll Up THe Rim to Win,.. Someone threw away a big winner,a Toyota RAV and a little girl found it in the garbage..)

Shamus is going to be 1.5 years old next week, wow! He is a little person to be sure. Powered on sunlight and poop I think because he does not stop going from eye open to eye shut . He is very playful and loves everything, in both food and experiences. Loves the store , going out, the cat, running outside, people ,kids etc etc. He is easy to feed , pretty much eats what we eat. Loves to read , he will stop chasing the cat mid step and run and get a book and bring it to mom or papa to read. I can go on and on as you can imagine, I am going to miss my baby when he gets to be a teenager ![]() Sean

I find it a real drag to hear that some guy suddenly now claims that that coffee cup the kid found was his and he's trying to claim the prize, and the other kid who helped the little girl roll up the win (or her folks) is also fighting to claim the prize.
My understanding is the guy turfed the cup in the garbage ... so the kid who "found it" and reaped the reward is the true "winner" ... the kid who helped her just helped her. As far as I'm concerned, the kid who found it is the winner and the "prize" should be in trust if they can claim a cash prize rather than the vehicle (she's too young to drive) ... it will be interesting to see how Tim Horton's handles this ... and the goonie lawyers are in there like flint going after the fees, of course. I also don't see this as the parents prize, therefore IN TRUST for that kids best inetersts. There was a poll in Canoe about this ... "who should get the prize" ... last I saw it was a huge landslide in favor of the kis who found the cup. My cousin won 5.5 million once on 649 ... back in about 1989. The prize was shared with her husband and kids ... one kid being underage at the time of claiming the prize. Her portion went into trust until she came of age ... which really was only a couple of years for her to wait for her $617,000.oo part ![]() I hope this thingw ith this kid gets settled real fast in her favor without lawyers reaping lots of the prize in fees. ![]() ![]() Also ... if a cash prize possible, I'd see the kid who helped got a bit of a kickback for that too. Ma...
Tim Hortons have entered the cup fray and have said that they will present the prize to whoever brings them the cup... Legal opinion is once the cup has been discarded,it becomes the finders... It is $30,000.00 truck we are talking about.. Common sense should tell the assistant rim roller and the janitor that threw away the cup that if they want to persue this prize ,it will cost them big$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$..to get it to court... Ethically ,their lawyers should tell them this right off the bat, first thing.... As soon as these two parties called in lawyers,it cost them a minimum of $500.00 retainer..up front and GONE....non refundable... KA-CHING!!!! The clock is running at a minimum of $200.00 -250.00 /hr.. Every call... KA-CHING!!!! Every piece of correspondence.... KA-CHING!!!!! Is a prize worth $30,000.00 worth fighting in court over...??? Only to those lawyers... I'll bet that they have spent a minimum of $2000.00 allready... Lawyers and undertakers love making money from other peoples misfortunes... That is why they are so hated... Right behind murderers, child molesters, drug dealers and then lawyers...but way ahead of polititions....

...that you might sell for 22k if you can find a buyer with enough money that the bank would give them a loan. Most banks only want to finance a non new vehicle to 75%. When this one is picked up and driven off, its non-new anymore.

Let 's consider the following for discussion:
1)What about all those military police G-wagons blocking the entrance of Tim Horton's trailer at six AM as the troopers are going for their cuppa-cuppa ?? 2)They'll have to enlarge the parking lot in front when the local Afghani police find out about our north american police traditions 3)What about the donut supply after all these early morning crowds have devoured the stock?? 4)Do you realize how many extra flights our over-extended C-130 Hercules air force aircraft will have to make in order to stop this crowd from becoming unruly in order to keep Timmy's in stock with coffee and batter for donuts ?? ?? Would you send a sleepy soldier in harm's way because he couldn't get his morning fix.Let us be real people!! Any way , end of rant for discussion. This has made me thirsty AND hungry.By the way , Timmy's has a new turkey sub on a bun wtih beef sauce and a minestrone soup thrown in.SORRY I have to go now to do my ER! shopping. ![]() |

I was a college student working part time at a liquor store for the L.C.B. back in the '70's. I remember when the D.N.D. got rid of their reserves of rum and the B.C. government sold 40 oz. bottles of Proof rum made from that stock for a very low price. The limit was two bottles and we sold out in little over one day. I wish I had kept one of my bottles as memoribilia, but try telling a 21 year old to not drink a bottle of booze! I've been looking for a SRD ceramic bottle to come up for sale for my display, but have never seen one. Ever see any for sale? ![]() ![]()
