Default Terrapin

This is the Terrapin belonging to John Belfield. He's had it in the collection for many years.

Originally powered by a pair of Ford V8s, with stick steering and 8 wheels, this is about the limit of my knowledge about this vehicle. I'm sure one or more of our members can provide more detail, and perhaps some pictures.

It's quite rusty, and the interior even contains a Tilly chassis among other things...

I remember a small b&w picture of this Terrapin in Wheels & Tracks magazine. Great to see larger colour pics of it now, no longer overgrown with brambles.

This is ARN 149391, one of three known survivors. One of them, located in the UK, was put up for sale late 2003.

Who will ever take on the restoration of such a rare beast?!?

Default W&T

Thanks Hanno

I remember the W&T pic too... and I must admit I've overlooked this interesting relic on visits to the Melbourne Tank Museum too in the past. I'll be making several more visits in the near future and I'll make a more complete photographic survey of it in due course.

Yes, it would be challenging, but I've heard of DUKWs in worse condition being restored, although the parts issue is rather different.

Keith,

About 5 years ago a fellow in Alice Springs was doing up a "Terrapin" and it was complete. I suspect it was a later British 8 wheeler amphibian - do you know anything about that vehicle?
