Default Pintle mount for C8AX

I am building an C8AX on a 1942 HUP 13 cab chassis. The cab is coming from a C15, the engine clip & fenders are from the original HUP, the gas tanks & running boards are also from the C15A as is the pintle & pintle spring mount.
I need pix of the way GM mounted the pintle hitch on the C8AX as the HUPs didn't have trailer hitches. Can anyone send me good pix of how the pintle was factory mounted on the C8AX? The mountings off the C15A are too large to fit the HUP frame.

Many tks. Bill Spence MacDuff Piper

Default Pintle Mount for C8AX

I am building a C8AX on a 1942 HUP chassis using parts required from a 1944 C15A. I have taken the pintle & pintle spring off the C15A to put on the HUP chassis, however the HUPs never had a trailer hitch & the mounts off the C15A don't fit the HUP chassis. Can anyone send me some good pix or drawings of what the pintle hitch attachement looks like when it left the GM factory???? Any help wud be appreciated.

Cheers, Bill Spence, MacDuff Piper

Default Pintle Mount C8AX

Max, Tks for reply re above. There is a drawing of this mount
in ARMY MOTORS No. 107 on page 21, but it only shows rear view and no idea of where spings are or the thickness of the metal bracket. If anyone else can throw some light on this, it wud be most appreciated. Tks again, Max

I don't have a pic of the frame, but there is a triangular supporting frame running from the chassis rails just near the hump in the rail. The frame mounts up inside the rear crossmember to reinforce it.

Tony, Tks for info & pic re above. Every bit of info helps solve the puzzle. If every one with a C8AX contributes a bit of info, I'll have the solution soon. Tks again.

Default C8AX Pintle Hitch Mounting

Ken, Glad to hear that you haven't forgotten me. I can wait for your photographer to get back; I've lots of other things to do in the meantime with this conversion. But I am looking forward to seeing pics of proper mounting arrangement for C8AX as it is very different from all other CMP hitch mountings.

Cheers, Bill Spence MacDuff Piper

Will send you pix when I get this done, however it won't be too soon as a ver sick wife in hospital is taking up most of my spare time. However tks again & I won' forget to send pix when I get this part completed.

Default C8AX

William

I have a C8AX here , a friend here with another C8AX ,borrowed the tow frame and madeup a replica . Before I owned it the pintle hook was removed and I don't have it . Are you the fellow I mailed the N.Z. GS body plans too some years back ?

My NZ body is badly squashed , but I managed to measure it up .
Its rather oddly made with oxy welded seams on the corners .

Mike .

Default C8AX Body Plans

Mike, Sorry but I'm not the guy that you mailed the body plans to several years ago. If you ever locate them I'd like a copy as I have to make a body for my C8AX project. Good luck in locating your plans.

Default plans

I mailed the plans to a guy in Canada a few years back , he was building up a C8AX from a HUP chassis .

my drawings are very basic , but I took heaps of pics of it as well .

I have the plans in JPG format so can burn a CD .

William

refering to Ken Hughes' pics:-
the basic dimensions of the pintle frame parts are as follows:

The plate holding the hook below the rear cross member is 6 inch x 11 1/4 inch x 1/2 inch plate

The side plates off the chassis rails are 6 inch x 10 1/2 inch by 3/8 inch plate.

The angled brace connecting the above plates is 3 inch x 1/4 inch flat, about 56 inch overall.

The end of the pintle shaft is supported by a folded channel which has a 3 3/8 inch web and 1 3/4 inch flanges ex 1/8 inch plate.

I'll attach some sketches I've done, though bolt hole details are missing.
