Default Winnipeg Free Press Lest we Forget Manitoba's Fallen

Hello,

I was Googling for family history things again, as I frequently do, and happened to pull up this awesome site listing Manitoba Fallen Soldiers in the Winnipeg Free Press Online editions. I thought I'd post this for those of you who may have Manitoba relatives who sacrificed their lives and want to seach for your relatives name. There are many names with information on rank, where they are from, who they served with, and where they are laid to rest. You can search alphabetically!

And I say, Thank You Winnipeg Free Press for publishing this online!!!

Hi Carmen
I checked out the link you sent and found my Uncle's name there. I also found that the Winnipeg Free Press archives are found here at the library and lakehead University so I am going there to see if I can find my uncle's obituary. Thanks Pauline

Awesome! I love hearing that something I posted helped someone unexpectedly with their "family" research especially! Good luck with finding your Uncle's obituary, and I hope you do.

I wish I'd been able to get back to the library to look up my Grandpas, as I'm sure my family would have posted one in the Wpg Free Press, now that I have his proper death date. And although I know my Uncle Ed's death date now, I don't know if and when they would have put a notice in the paper, because was first declared as MIA, then later KIA, then ... his death date and details weren't known for so very long, so that would make for an awful lot of scrolling through probably at least a years worth of old newspapers Wouldn't it be neat if people transcribed this stuff and made it searchable alphabetically? I know, that's a lot to wish for

Karmen.
