Here's a few pics of my Ferret. I am currently refurbishing all the sheet metal with Por 15, and new paint. If anyone has any idea how to put the gritty non skid stuff on the walking surfases, please let me know.

Hi Dan; Mike says Hi. Anti skid can be applied in three ways that I am aware of:
1. self adhesive strips are avail at most safety supply outlets, 2. don't remember the brand name, but there is a paint with the grit mixed in, stir well and apply with a brush, and 3. what we did in the army was to blob on some paint of the right colour and sprinkle sand from the fire bucket on the wet paint. For neatness simply mask off the areas that you want apply the anti skid paint to, or in the case of the strips, cut to fit. Cheers, Bill |

Thanks Bill. I think the sprinkling of large grain sand is what I'll do. But it wears off so quickly. Epoxy glue might work as an adhesive. I'll try a few ways on practice pieces.

What can you tell us about the tyres? Not the beauty on the side, but the four on the ground. Are they 9.00x16 Michelins? Are they available and do they fit without any bead issues?
Call me anti-Americcan, but they are a visual improvement over the bar-tread tyres that have been discussed for 16" CMP rims and would do until Stew Loy makes good on that container of S-pattern 'Dunlops' from India. |

The michelin tires were bought locally from a guy who buys military surplus. They are about $195 each. I have replaced the spare with a michelin aswell. I thought I would have issues with the bead, but no problem. I was looking for oem replacments, but I haven't won the lotto yet. I can hook you up with the guys phone number if you need tires. He is located in St Lazarre PQ.
As for the look, I am more concearned with function rather than look. Original is great if it's available. Eventually all the stock will be gone...ie ferret mufflers, and we'll have no option but to be inventive. I made my muffler from Stainless pipe. Let me know if you need contact info. Dan |

76 MS 80 is it's discharge reg number and the data plate number. I found it's original number under a bunch of paint. Hense 00 DA 81. I repainted the number and the pictures are from two different dates. Bovington tank museum keeps no record of the discharge numbers, so the only authentic one is the one I found. Because the knob who replaced the data plate to read the discharge number was wrong. Good eyes on ya!

Dan, I had some milspec paint right out of DND that was anti-skid.(PPG) I am suprised that the veh-tech types aren't aware of it???
I will check and see if I still have a gallon. I wouold assume you would mask off the area and perhaps apply via paint roller.

I would mask off the areas. The horizontal part above the glacius plate, the rear deck, and the front fenders is what I want to cover. I would imagine only a quart is what I need. Probably not even that much. It's just for the folks that insist on climbing on the vehicle....liability and all that stuff.
If you have some, I would love to buy a quart from you. Is it the small grain stuff, or the big grain. Thanks in advance Dan |

Dan, I do have a gallon of PPG paint, I believe it says IRR (modern infra red reflective) anti-skid. This stuff is the same as used on the LAV I am sure.

If my memory serves me well the sticky backed sand paper stuff is a 3M product.
