Was absent a little bit to the South and found 3 times the remnants of CMP trucks. This one was the best of all - I think it should be a FORD.
I am still not familiar with the details of the CMPs - may somebody has a better glue what kind of truck this is? Identified (see below) as: Chevrolet cab 12, looks to be 158" wheelbase C60L Last edited by Kuno; 25-12-06 at 12:48. |

The "Wreck 2" was not in that good shape any more. It is still in "use" --- as a shelter for local desert drivers. In one of the boxes you always find some water and something to eat.
There were the "clips" for the sandchannels but no other sign that it was a truck of the LRDG - although they MUST have used this gap in the dunes many times as well. It looks like a CHEVROLET 60cwt to me - would you agree? Last edited by Kuno; 28-12-06 at 10:58. |

The "Wreck 1" has only the rear body left. But nevertheless - it is still in use as well. The locals use it to store water. The back flap has been thightened and now the "truck" acts as a basin.
It looks like the remnant of a CMP to me especially since it is manufactured in Canada. Any furhter suggestions what kind of truck it has been once? |

That first picture looks like a cab 12. I like how the fenders at ground level are shiny metal from the blowing sand. It makes you wonder how long it would take to sandblast them right away.

The first one is a Chevrolet cab 12, looks to be 158" wheelbase C60L.
Second looks like a Ford, and by the length of the body I'd say F60S GS. The third body looks to be from a long wheelbase 3-ton CMP. Great pics!

...for your replies & identifications. It seems that I have been completely wrong with my assumptions.

Kuno,
Great pictures! The cab12 picture could be a nice picture for the cover of a CMP book...... Alex |

![]() ![]() May I ask for confirmation about the types of trucks above. As you know, I am really not a professional in matters of CMP but I always had the impression the the "flat fronts" were the Chevrolets and the others - as the LRDG had used them- were Fords. Now from above we have the following: Wreck 3: Chevrolet cab 12, 158" wheelbase C60L Wreck 2: Ford F60 GS Wreck 1; CMP 3to If nobody has another opinion, then I would use it like this in my text ![]() |

Wreck 2: CMP 13 cab could be Ford or Chevrolet probably a 3 ton but could be a 30cwt as well. Not enough detail to tell for sure. Wreck 1: rear body off a 30cwt or 3ton General Service truck. could be any make or model 4X2 or 4X4. Just because it was made in Canada does not mean it was a CMP. They made Chevrolet , Fords & other makes of 4X2 too. Cheers Cliff ![]() |

Many thanks, Cliff.
For "Wreck 2" only those 3 big parts were left there. Would you think that on one of them one could find any detail which would bring the final conclusion about the type? |

Judging by the shape of the front shell I'd guess a Ford.

The ford nose has only 4 bolt holes holding in each head lamp unit, and the chev nose has 6 or 8 bolts holding in the headlamp unit. At least that is what I have found in New Zealand.
