Default Italy

I found this photo in my Dad's photo album. He worked on aircraft radar in North Africa and finally Italy where this one was taken circa late 44-45.

Default An Ambulance and a German happy to leave Australia

This is on epay at the moment and of course the vehicle is a Ford No2 Ambulance (Aust), ARN 62938 I think...

Here's another for when the epay one runs out.

And here's a link to the Epay page.

Default Same truck..different time..

While the truck may be the same truck ,on the top picture it has dual wheels..on the bottom picture it has single rear wheels..
Could it be two different wreckers from the same company...??I can't see the smaller picture well enough for comparison..Nice pictures ..

I've had a good look at Woolfendens group of photos and the two Chevs have different rego numbers. One has 748LV and the other 644LV so I guess that they are different trucks.

Having said that, it might not be the case, as it seems that Wooldfendens weren't shy in swaping their number plates around. 644LV is seen on at least 3 different trucks. The Chev in question, an International and an Autocar.

Great photos though.

Regards Rick.

Hi Rick,
You can ignore those plates, 748LV and 644LV, they are General Trade Plates and were used by vehicle traders and garages to use vehicles that were currently unregistered or taxed on the road for specific duties.
regards,
Richard

It's a great picture, but again the CMPs are the subject of the picture, not just included in the background.

Default Great find Mark

This one with the cab 12 portees is interesting as pictures of these seem to be fairly rare. I remember Bart Vanderveen covered them in W&T.

Have we seen this pic on here before?

Name the three vehicles in the first picture.

Second picture has the same vehicle in the forground plus a CMP in the background of course.

Yes, they're woefully under-represented in public collections, especially when you consider the role their crews played in North Africa. I'm pretty sure there was even a VC earned on a cab 12 portee (British from memory).

Somewhere amongst all my saved images I have some lesser known pics of cab 12 portees, which I shall dig up and post in due course. Not being strictly "in the background" I shall post them on Keith's cab 11/12 thread, which seems to have fallen into disuse of late (hint, hint!)

Meanwhile, speaking of rarities....you'd be hard pressed to find a more unusual CMP image than pic 1 below - a RAAF C60X aircraft refueller attending a Tachikawa KI-54 "Hickory" full of Japanese officers! (is it just me, or do I detect some hostility from the troops in pic 3....?)

Thanks Luke and Mark for the confirmation. Thought it may have been a Loyd, but did not realise they were so open right at the back end.

Default Family now well trained

Hi All

Family is now very well trained any time the find a picture of CMP anywhere they show it or send it to me. Just now my wife Margaret (retired reference and children's librarian) found this post war CMP.

Screen Shot 2015-09-28 at 4.25.07 PM.jpg

If you are curious what she was looking up
"Jasper Maskelyne (1902–1973) was a British stage magician in the 1930s and 1940s. He was one of an established family of stage magicians, the son of Nevil Maskelyne and a grandson of John Nevil Maskelyne. He is most remembered, however, for his entertaining accounts of his work for British military intelligence during the Second World War, in which he claims that he created large-scale ruses, deception, and camouflage."

Now I'll have to read more about his war time work.

Cheers Phil

The motorcycle in the foreground is as common as dirt compared to what I believe is the (only) prototype Pigeon Loft trailer.
